Lainey Wilson Praises Devlin 'Duck' Hodges, Reveals the Secret to Their Relationship

Lainey Wilson is opening up about her relationship with her fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges. Wilson and Hodges began dating in 2021, long before she had the massive superstar career she has now. Fortunately, Hodges is happily supporting Wilson, even if her career sometimes keeps them apart.

“We don’t get to see each other all the time, and I do live a lot of my life on the road, so we’re also kind of figuring it out as we go, which is fun,” Wilson tells People, adding that their relationship is “a lot different than a normal relationship.” With that in mind, the two have figured out how to stay connected, even if she is gone a lot.

“You have to definitely carve out the time,” the Grand Ole Opry member explains. “It has to be something that you’re very aware of, and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’ve got a day off here in ten days. I’ve got to dedicate that day to spend time with my person.’

“And we both need that and deserve that, and it’s always great,” she adds. “We just try to soak up those moments as best as we possibly can.”

Wilson and Hodges might not spend a lot of time together, but their relationship is still strong, in large part because of how Hodges supports her and her career.

“He is one of the purest hearts and people that I have ever met,” Wilson says. “He is my biggest cheerleader. We don’t really play by the rules.”

Lainey Wilson and Devlin “Duck” Hodges’ Wedding

Wilson and Hodges are getting married at some point, but likely not anytime soon. The couple got engaged in February, although Wilson admits they haven’t even begun planning for their ceremony yet.

“I’m so excited. He made me wait four years, so I’m gonna make him wait four years for the planning,” Wilson tells the CMA. “I am so happy, so thrilled … We haven’t started planning yet, but whenever we do, I think it’s going to be something very simple. Everything else in our life is a big old to-do, so who knows? We might have to run to the courthouse.”

Wilson waited for her ring for a long time, which is why she says Hodges might wait for a bit before she becomes his wife.

“[Duck] is gonna kill me, but I told I’m gonna make him wait,” Wilson tells Country Living. “He made me wait for four years. I’m gonna make him wait before we start planning this thing. We hadn’t really covered any ground on it just yet. But we’re taking our time, and it’s gonna be right and it’s gonna be beautiful and what it’s supposed to be about.”

One thing we do know about Wilson’s big day is that she is ditching her bell-bottoms, at least for the ceremony.

“I’m going to wear a dress,” Wilson says on The Kelleigh Bannen Show. “I haven’t done the whole dress shopping. We haven’t even picked a date or anything like that. We got some time, but I figured, you know what? I hadn’t worn a dress for him yet, and I guess that would be the day to do it.”

Wilson has a Top 25 hit with “Somewhere Over Laredo,” from her Whirlwind Deluxe album, out next month. Find the song, and all of Wlson’s music and upcoming shows, at  LaineyWilson.com.
