Lainey Wilson is opening up about joining Dolly Parton on “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” Parton just released the song, in honor of her 80th birthday, joined by Wilson, Reba McEntire, Miley Cyrus, and Queen Latifah. It’s an invitation Wilson was thrilled to accept.
“I think all of you probably know how important Dolly is to me and my journey,” Wilson shares at a recent media event. “And how important she is to so many people. She has definitely been somebody that I’ve looked to when I think about, can I do this? Can I not? Should I do this? Should I not? Should I say this? Should I not? She somehow always does it with grace and everything. She’s been a huge pillar for me.”
When Parton asked Wilson to join her on “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” it was an immediate yes from the “Somewhere Over Laredo” singer.
“That will never get old to me,” Wilson says. “That will never get old to me. And when I found out who else was going to be a part of the song, it’s huge for her to tip her hat to me like that, by allowing me to be on this incredible song that has stood the test of time, that does mean so much. I got to spend time with her in the studio, and just having her coach me up. The banter that me and her have been able to have with each other, I feel like I’ve known her from another lifetime.
“Mama got to spend some time with her,” she adds. “It was just a really special day. And I do not take it for granted that I even got to spend a few hours with that woman. Everything that she says, I put it in my pocket.”

Lainey Wilson Shares a Hilarious “Rumor” Dolly Parton Is Starting About Snoop Dogg
Wilson recently got to perform with Snoop Dogg on Christmas Day, for the NFL Christmas Day Halftime Show. Wilson laughs as she recalls telling her about how the rapper invited her to perform.
“I was telling her the story about how Snoop Dogg had Facetimed me while I was in the bed eating sherbert,” Wilson recounts. And Duck goes, ‘You have to answer it!’ I had never even met Snoop Dogg at this point. I answered it, and I was telling her this story about how he had smoke billowing around him, and she said, ‘I’m gonna start a rumor that you and Snoop Dogg were in the bed together.'”
“Honestly, if Dolly Parton started a rumor about me, I’d be like ‘Hell, yeah. Have at it, girlfriend,” she remarks. “So just getting to know her, there’s so many layers to that woman, and I’m thankful to have her in my life.”
