Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean joined Shenandoah last year to sing a new version of “Sunday in the South.” The song was originally released in 1989 on Shenandoah’s sophomore The Road Not Taken record. Apparently, Bryan and Aldean enjoyed the song so much, they recently performed it together again, this time without Shenandoah.
“The go to cover that Jason Aldean and I got to redo with Shenandoah,” Bryan captions the video. “Loved getting to play ‘Sunday in the South’ with Jason.”

Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean Join Shenandoah On “Sunday in the South”
The video for Bryan and Aldean’s “Sunday in the South” was partially filmed at the popular Country Boy restaurant in Leipers Fork, a town located just outside of Nashville. Other parts of the video highlight parts of Muscle Shoals, a nod to the original video, released in 1989.
“Having Jason and Luke on this song has certainly been a highlight for us,” Shenandoah’s lead singer Marty Raybon said in a staetment when the new video was released. “This song has always ministered to us in such a special way.”
Both Bryan and Aldean grew up as big fans of Shenandoah, which is why they were so eager to join them on the country classic.
“My earliest memories of ‘Sunday in the South’ is that it was a song that was speaking exactly my life,” Bryan says. “This song shaped the way I thought about music and how I wanted to make music one day.“
“It’s just always an honor for us to get to work with these guys we grew up listening to,” adds Aldean.
Luke Bryan’s Friendship With Jason Aldean
Bryan and Aldean’s friendship began about 20 years ago, when they were both just getting started in country music. The two will co-headline a show at Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia on April 25, 2026. The concert will be the first since 2013, and only the second concert ever, to be held inside the venue. Aldean headlined the only other show at Sanford Stadium, as part of his 2013 Night Train Tour.
“Luke and I both came up in this town together, and we totally could have been enemies, rivals. But instead we became best friends,” Aldean said when honoring Bryan at the 2024 ACM Honors (via Country Now). “And over the years, I’ve watched him give 100 percent to whatever he does, especially when it comes to helping others.”
Aldean acknowledges that the two could have been rivals, but instead chose to be each other’s biggest supporters.
“I think Luke and I came up in this business together,” Aldean says. “And we’ve been there for each other [during] some of the biggest moments of our career and just struck up a friendship almost 20 years ago that, you know, [is] still going strong.”
