Luke Bryan isn’t ready to say if he’s coming back for another season of American Idol. Bryan, along with Lionel Richie, has been part of Idol since 2018, when the show moved to ABC, while Carrie Underwood enjoyed her inaugural season earlier this year.
“We’re close to getting some stuff figured out,” Bryan says on Country Nights Live with Bev Rainey. “But I think Idol, they know …but between me and Carrie and Lionel and Ryan, we haven’t announced all together what we’re going to do.”
Still, Bryan does give a glimmer of hope for their future as part of American Idol, at least for 2026.
“I don’t predict any big surprises in that world, but we’ll see,” he adds.
What Luke Bryan Has Said About The Next Season of ‘American Idol’
Bryan has been adamant that he really doesn’t know his future on the hit TV show, even as fans beg for answers.
“Idol is kind of a year-by-year, ‘Do we do it or not?’” Bryan tells Taste of Country. “Last year was really really incredible with Carrie and Lionel and Ryan. And the main thing is just, have fun with American Idol and have fun with the kids.”
“We’ll see what happens,” he remarks.
Underwood has been noticeably silent about whether or not she will return for another season of American Idol. But the “Country Song Came On” singer hints it’s likely that Underwood will come back for Season 24.
“I know she had a great time in the role,” Bryan says. “My prediction would be highly favorable.”
Luke Bryan’s New Musical Chapter
Bryan’s last album, Mind of a Country Boy, was released last year. Bryan is hard at work on a new record, his ninth, but he says it will be much different than anything he has released in the past.
“It’s nice to kind of depart from what they expect and give them something new,” Bryan tells Country Countdown USA. “Now they’ll be wanting, hopefully, the next chapter of my singles, and keeping them guessing, and me trying to stay on top of my game.”
Bryan is putting the finishing touches on his new record, even while on his Country Song Came On Tour.
“I’m on tour right now,” Bryan tells The Tennesseean. “I’m actively writing songs. People always ask me, ‘Are you working on a new album?’ I don’t think I ever stop really working on a new album. I’m always trying to write a little bit and find songs. … The bottom line is, get in the studio at some point and record some new music, and just keep doing the deal. Keep enjoying being a country music singer.”
Luke Bryan’s Future In Country Music
With so much success already, the sky is the limit for Bryan as he looks to the future – and he knows it.
“I want to be happy. Really try to harness and enjoy what’s happened in my career,” Bryan tells Taste of Country.
“You’ve heard the stories of becoming an old curmudgeon as you get older. I don’t want to be that,” he adds. “I want to have fun, and have fun with this career and look back and say, ‘Damn, that was fun!’”
