Luke Combs joined Carly Pearce for one unforgettable duet. The two were performing at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, as part of the Grand Ole Opry’s show in London, when Combs joined Pearce to sing “I Hope You’re Happy Now.” The song was written by Pearce and Combs, along with Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton. The Opry took their show overseas as part of its ongoing 100th anniversary celebration.
Pearce recorded “I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Lee Brice for her self-titled sophomore album. The song is Pearce’s second No. 1 single.
“Many of you don’t know that I wrote ‘I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Luke Combs,” Pearce writes on social media. “Tonight in London, we sang it for the FIRST time since we wrote it six years ago. Thank you Luke for this full circle moment!”

The Story Behind Carly Pearce’s “I Hope You’re Happy Now” Single
Pearce and Brice won a CMA Award for “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” for Musical Event of the Year. The song was written while Pearce was thinking about a former relationship she had been in.
“I knew that I wanted to write a duet,” Pearece tells The Boot. “And I just started to tell my side of something that I think so many of us go through, which is that sometimes you get complacent in a relationship, or you get comfortable, and you’re not really in love with this person. You’re just in love with the idea of being comfortable, and with someone.
“Honestly, that’s where I was,” she continues. “I was on the back end of realizing, over the course of probably a year of staying with this person and keeping it to myself, that I wasn’t happy anymore. So Luke was like, ‘What if I play the role of the guy?’ We kind of landed on this [idea] of ‘I hope you’re happy now,’ and the spin on it, of whichever side you’re on, and how you take that differently. Honestly, in the way that all my best songs have happened, it kind of fell out of my mouth.”
Carly Pearce Shares Details of New Album
Pearce is hard at work on a new album, the follow-up to Hummingbird, out in 2024.
“I think with each album, I just get a little bit more sure of the kind of music that I want to make and the type of artist that I am,” Pearce tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I just think that I’m very, very sure of who I am. I’m just in a really good place of making music for me, which I think is, in return, making the best music that I’ve made.”
“I think my music has just gotten more me,” she continues. “I don’t feel like I’m chasing anything anymore. I don’t feel like I’m trying to be successful. I don’t feel like I’m trying to make a name for myself. I feel like I’m now just able to make the kind of music that I always wanted to, which is really, really special.”
