Luke Combs has just made history in country music. Combs now has four diamond-certified songs, with sales of more than ten million, making him the only country music artist to have four diamond-certified songs. The newest song with diamond certification is “She Got the Best of Me,” an ironic song to make history, at least according to Combs.
“Honored to have gotten the opportunity to headline Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival last night and I’ll never forget it,” Combs writes on social media. “Thank y’all for having us. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Also can’t believe a song I wrote while I was still in college before moving to Nashville is now diamond. Y’all are something else. Thank you!!”
In addition to “She Got the Best of Me” being certified diamond, Combs also celebrated an astonishing 34 new RIAA certifications. His new grand total is 155.5 million RIAA-certified units, marking him as the second-highest country artist, with only Garth Brooks ahead of him.

Combs isn’t done yet. He is also working on a new album, while hoping to bring even more people into country music.
“The next frontier is expanding my limits to embrace people who want to destigmatize country music,” Combs tells The Tennessean. “It’s a fresh, different challenge.”
If anyone is ready to expand the genre’s popularity, it’s Combs.
“I’m passionate about country music, and have a deep knowledge of its inner workings,” Combs says. “But I’m also someone who ran as far away from country music as I could and hated it, for a decade, when I was ten or 11 years old,”
The father of two is taking time off in 2025 to spend time with his sons. But rest assured, he has big plans for 2026.
“I got a big tour coming next year,” Combs says. “I just kind of finalized a lot of the details on that here in the last week or so. So new record coming up soon, new tour coming up. I’m just excited. I’m excited and I’m back. I’m back doing stuff and being around, and obviously spending time at home. I just wanted to be able to talk to you guys again, me to you. I know I used to do stuff like this a lot, and I miss doing it.”
The Story Behind “She Got the Best of Me”
“She Got the Best of Me” is Combs’ fourth single, and fourth No. 1 hit. Released in 2018, Combs wrote the song with Channing Wilson and Rob Snyder, long before he had any idea of the superstar career he would ultimately have.
“I was still in college when I came and wrote with them, and wrote the song,” Coms tells The Boot. “I was still in school, living in North Carolina. So we ended up writing it [when] I was just in town visiting. I went back to Boone and started playing the song out at my little gigs and stuff, and eventually came back to Nashville a few months later and recorded that song. I put it out that year — it was like July of 2014 — put it out on my own.”
Ironically, although “She Got the Best of Me” was on This One’s For You Too, the deluxe version of Combs’ freshman This One’s For You record, what helped make the song a success was Combs’ early recording of it.
“After this album came out, we were still playing it on the road, and the reaction to it was just always so good,” Combs remembers. “It just kind of made sense to give it a chance. It went No. 1 on [the SiriusXM satellite radio country station] The Highway after ‘Hurricane.’ They just wanted to play a song, so they played the version I recorded in college.”
