Luke Combs is driving a new vehicle, thanks to Garth Brooks. Combs reveals that Brooks bought him a Bronco Raptor, one that cost almost six figures, as a thank you for something Combs did for him, more than a year ago.
“I had a First Edition Bronco,” Combs says on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “I had a Ford deal for a couple of years. So when they came out with the Bronco, I said, ‘I gotta get one.’ I bought that; I already had it. My manager bought one of those Bronco Raptor ones. It was that ‘space blue.'”
Combs was feeing his son at the dinner table during the Christmas season last year, when he saw his manager show up unexpectedly.
“I can see our gate. I was like, ‘Man, why is my manager pulling up in his Bronco?’ Combs remembers, adding that his manager would never just show up unannounced.
“I was like, ‘This is kind of weird that he would show up,'” Combs says. “He walks in. I figured he was giving me a Christmas present. So he comes in and throws me the keys to this thing. I’m like, ‘Are you giving me your car, dude? What is this’? He’s like, ‘No, man, Garth bought you this.'”
Combs admits he was astounded – and puzzled – by the extremely generous gift.
“This is a $90,000 car, dude! What are you talking about?'” Combs remembers saying.
The Reason Garth Brooks Gave Luke Combs A Bronco Raptor
Combs goes on to reveal the sweet, but brief, way he honored Brooks a few years prior, which left an indelible mark on Brooks.
“I guess it had maybe been like a year and a half before that, he got inducted into the [Nashville] Songwriters Hall of Fame,” Combs shares. “They did it at the Ryman, and it was like all these people came. You picked your favorite song that Garth has written.”
“Mine was actually ‘The Beaches of Cheyenne,’ which, it was a hit, but it wasn’t like a super hit,” he continues. “And so, he was like, ‘This was for you coming and singing that one song.'”
One week later, Brooks called Combs’ manager to ask for suggestions on what to get him. When his manager suggested the Bronco Raptor, the Country Music Hall of Fame member ordered one, taking a year for it to be available.
“I didn’t talk to him from that night until that thing showed up at my house,” Combs says. “Obviously, I called him.”
Combs says he told Brooks the gift was unnecessary, but Brooks was adamant that he deserved the lavish present.
“I drove 20 minutes, and I was there for less than an hour,” Combs remembers telling him. “He said, ‘Yeah, but you could’ve went out and booked your own show that night, made this much money or whatever.’ … I was just kind of floored by that, to be honest.”
Combs is an impressive songwriter on his own. He has penned most of his hits, including “Hurricane,” “Beautiful Crazy,” and his current “Back In The Saddle” single.
