Megan Moroney just had her second No. 1 hit, with “Am I Okay?” Moroney celebrated at an event in downtown Nashville, where she was joined by her producer, Kristian Bush, and co-writers Luke Laird and Jessie Jo Dillon.

“This has been crazy.  ‘Am I Okay?,’ this song created a whole era for me. We invented the color blue with this song,” Moroney says with a laugh. “To my songwriters, writing with you all is so effortless. I love both of you so much. We have songs in our phone that no one else here does that I think are, I don’t want to say better than this song, but I’m so happy with where this write then led to the other writes … I love you all so much.”

Moroney also praises Bush, whom she met when she interned for him while she was still in college. “I interned for Kristian, and he’s produced everything I’ve ever put out,” Moroney says. “So, I just am so grateful for you understanding my brain, and you’re a genius, and I’m obviously forever a fan of Kristian Bush.”

Megan Moroney’s Second No. 1 Single

“Am I Okay?” follows “Tennessee Orange,” out in 2022, which was also the first song she ever released.

“I just love doing this,” Moroney says. “I can feel that it gets bigger, because I can’t just go places anymore, without someone knowing who I am. But it feels so normal, and like it always did in the beginning. And I think it’s because I have such solid people around me, from the producer, the songwriters, my team. I know that, in every corner I look, there are genuine people that want what’s best for me, and they trust me and my instincts, and that’s all you can ask for as a songwriter.”

“I’m on the road a lot, obviously, and we’re out here building it with my fans,” she concludes. “It’s cool to know back in Nashville that everyone has my back, and they’re working respectively on what I can’t take care of when I’m on the road.”

The Story Behind Megan Moroney’s ‘Am I Okay?’

“Am I Okay?” is the title track of Moroney’s sophomore album. The Georgia native had the idea to write the song when she was in a relationship that seemed to be going well.

“I was like a month in and I was like, ‘Wait, I’m actually like really happy and this is crazy,’” Moroney recalls to Audacy. “Like, what’s wrong with me? I’m usually so sad … And so, that was the sentiment that I went in with.”

At the time, Moroney knew she was getting ready to hit the road with Kenny Chesney, on his Sun Goes Down Tour.
