Miranda Lambert’s “A Song To Sing” with Chris Stapleton. is out. The song was written by Lambert and Stapleton, along with Jesse Frasure and Jenee Fleenor. It will be released as a single on Monday, July 14.
“Chris understands this emotion from the inside out, because he and Morgane have both lived it,” Lambert says. “To have someone so soulful and willing to go into the heart of the feelings, to share the pull of the road and creative life – and what that means when you love someone with every bit of your being is next level. When we finished it, we both knew we wanted to release it, to share it with everyone.”
The song is likely from a new record. Lambert last released Postcards from Texas, which was her first album on Republic Records, after leaving Sony Music Nashville, where she had been for 20 years.
“This record, because I have had so much full circle happen lately, with turning 40 and a new record label, and I felt new freedom,” Lambert said when releasing the record. “And with that freedom, all I wanted to do was go home to reset so I could get strong to take on a whole new journey. And so I think this record is a snapshot of more like two decades versus the last two years… There’s emotions that I’ve felt for the last two decades as a woman, as an artist in this album.”
It was Lambert’s fans who gave her the courage to release Postcards from Texas, which includes her vulnerable single, “Run,” about the end of her marriage to Blake Shelton.
“I mean, the fans are the reason that have stuck it out from ‘Kerosene,’ and now they’re bringing their daughters to my shows and they’re 16,” Lambert says on Apple Music Country’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen. “And they’re like, ‘We grew up on your music.’ But that encouragement helped me keep telling the truth, and helped me not be afraid. Whatever the story I was telling, it was their story too. And it’s like, ‘Okay, I’m going to keep doing that then.’ Because you’re validating, ‘I’m not in this alone and neither are you. Let’s do it together.’”
Lambert recently shared an even bigger goal for herself than releasing great albums and having hit singles. The singer-songwriter reveals she wants to someday be a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“I have a lot of work to do before I get in there, and I know it, but that’s okay,” Lambert tells Taste of Country Nights.
“You gotta earn that,” she continues. “You gotta earn that spot, and I’m willing to do the work.”
Stapleton notoriously doesn’t do many duets. In fact, his last was with Carly Pearce, on “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” released in 2023 on Pearce’s Hummingbird album. Pearce pitched the song to Stapleton’s wife, Morgane, who admitted it was a long shot, since he rarely does duets.
Stapleton’s last single was “Think I’m In Love With You,” from his Higher album.
