Riley Green and Ella Langley already have two award-winning hit singles to their credit, with both “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do.” And now, Green says he is open to the idea of another collaboration with Langley.
“It would be really difficult not to try to do another song with Ella because that’s really worked well,” Green says (via iHeartRadio). With that said, Green adds that if they do decide to do another song together, it will likely be unplanned.
“I think any collaboration that I do has got to be something that’s really organic,” the Alabama native says. “Just somebody that I have a relationship with, somebody I’m friends with, somebody I’m a fan of, and has the same musical inspirations that I do. I think me and Ella grew up the same way, and I think fans can tell when it’s real. There’s certainly some collaborations that go through management and labels and the proper channels, and I’ve never done it that way. It’s always been somebody I’m friends with that says, ‘Hey, I like this song. Wanna be a part of it?’”
The Success of “You Look Like You Love Me” by Riley Green and Ella Langley
Green and Langley just earned three new trophies at the recent CMA Awards, in addition to winning one last year (for Musical Event of the Year). The recent wins only make Green want to work harder than ever as he heads into 20026.
“It’s a crazy thing,” Green said backstage at the CMA Awards. “I can honestly say I never thought I’d have a song on radio, or a record deal. It still feels crazy to get to come to these things. It really does. And to get to see all of the performers, and all these people that I’m a huge fan of. To get the recognition we got tonight is a really big deal. And probably more than anything, it’s motivating. Makes you want to keep playing 100-plus shows a year, and write as many songs as you can, and keep putting out music.
“Because something’s working,” he adds. “And I don’t know what it is, but I’m gonna do as much of it as I can.”
The Story Behind Riley Green’s Current “Don’t Mind If I Do” Single With Ella Langley
Green and Langley already had “You Look Like You Love Me” recorded when Langley joined Green on “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the title track of his latest album. At the time, Langley thought she was just doing Green a favor by singing on the demo, until he realized she was perfect for the song.
“I didn’t plan on her being on that song,” Green says on Apple Music Country‘s Kelleigh Bannen. “I wrote it as a duet, but I had her come by the studio to put a female vocal on it just to hear it so I could potentially pitch it around, and she just crushed it. It sounded so great. We are from very similar areas in Alabama, and I think we grew up listening to the same kind of music. So maybe that’s why our voices go so well together, and we’ve got the same kind of twang.
“Even having those two duets wasn’t a planned thing,” he adds. “It just kind of happened. I’m happy for her success, and it’s fun having her on the road to do those two songs and have those two hits with her.”
