Scotty McCreery Already Baby-Proofed His Bus, Says Avery Will Be a 'Great Big Brother'

Scotty McCreery is ready to welcome his second child into the world this fall. The Grand Ole Opry member and his wife Gabi are already parents to two-year-old Avery, and can’t wait to welcome his sibling as well.

“That’s the real important stuff in life, right?” McCreery reflects to American Songwriter. “It’s been a fun season for us, just kind of gearing up for baby number two. We’re getting Avery prepped and ready. I think he’s finally grasping that his baby brother’s in mommy’s belly. I think he’s gonna be a great big brother.”

McCreery is heading out on a co-headlining Two For The Road Tour with Dustin Lynch in November, where he hints both children might join him on the road.

“The bus is baby-proofed,” he reveals. “There’s a zip-up bunk crib kind of thing on there and stuffed animals. Whatever you need for the babies, it’s already on there. Just as soon as mama bear feels comfortable bringing the little one out, I think is when that will happen.”

The new baby comes as McCreery’s country music career is at an all-time high. McCreery, who performed at Nissan Stadium for CMA Fest, has a Top 20 hit with “Bottle Rockets,” a collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish. He also just released  “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine,” with the legendary Charlie Wilson. Both songs, along with three others, are from his forthcoming Scooter & Friends EP, out on July 18.

“I think every one of these songs is meant to lift you up, put a smile on, feel good, have a good time kind of tune,” McCreery says of the project, which also includes a song called “Whiskey Said” with Lee Brice. “There’s nothing too serious… This is just kind of a chill out, enjoy yourself kind of EP, which is something little different for me.”

Scooter & Friends is a bit of a departure, in the best way possible, for McCreery, almost 14 years after his freshman Clear as Day project was released.

“I’ve never been a big collaboration guy,” McCreery acknowledges. “I haven’t done many at all in my career, so to do a project kind of centered around that felt like something fun and a different challenge to do.”

As if all of that wasn’t exciting enough, the North Carolina native just announced the launch of his new monthly series, Prime Country with Scotty McCreery, available beginning on July 5.

“I love country music from every decade, but the country music of the ’80s and ’90s is probably my favorite era of music,” McCreery tells Billboard. “I’m excited to put a spotlight on the songs and performers I grew up listening to that helped shape the artist I am today.”

With so much happening, the 31-year-old has never been as excited about his future as he is right now.

“I’ve just kind of got a lot of hope. I’m thankful,” McCreery says. “I’m just kind of walking around with a smile on my face right now, both professionally and personally.”
