Scotty McCreery and Hootie & the Blowfish Drop 'Bottle Rockets' Video [Watch]

The video for Scotty McCreery and Hootie & the Blowfish’s “Bottle Rockets” is out! The two acts released the video, shot in the Isle of Palms, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina, as “Bottle Rockets” is in the Top 5.

“Hanging out on the beach with Hootie & The Blowfish, one of my favorite bands of all time, and filming the video for ‘Bottle Rockets’ was just a perfect day for me,” McCreery says. “Darius, Mark [Bryan], Dean [Felber], and [Jim Sonefeld] are not only talented, but just great guys. I’ve been so excited at all that success that ‘Bottle Rockets’ has had so far, and I’m glad we were able to get together and create this video for everyone.”

The Story Behind Scotty McCreery and Hootie & The Blowfish’s “Bottle Rockets”

“Bottle Rockets” is on McCreery’s latest Scotter & Friends EP, released in July. The song was written during the winter on a writing retreat in North Carolina.

“We had a lot of songs started going into that retreat, but this song came out of a conversation,” McCreery recalls on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen. “This was us reminiscing on previous summers, like ‘I remember my last summer of no job, no responsibilities and school was out. That was such a fun summer.’

“And for me in the Carolinas, and I think for everybody worldwide, Hootie & the Blowfish were huge,” he continues. “It was just talking about those soundtracks of summer. I forget who played into it first, but the chords were kind of matching, and we were like, ‘Man, that’s kind of cool,’ so we just ran with it.”

Adding Hootie & the Blowfish To “Bottle Rockets”

McCreery knew when the song was written that he already loved it. But his biggest dream was to sing the song with Hootie & the Blowfish, even though he wasn’t sure that dream would come true.

“It fit like a glove when we wrote it,” McCreery boasts on Marty & McGee. “When we wrote it, I did the demo by myself, and it worked. But the dream was, can we get Hootie & the Blowfish to do this? Me and [Darius], we’ve become good friends over the years, and we’re golf buddies now. We’re in the same fantasy football league. We’re boys, but when you text somebody that, it’s not just being boys, now we’re talking business. So I was a little nervous.

“But he texted right back that he loved the song, and wanted to do it,” he remembers. “He said, ‘Let me get the other guys involved.’ And we didn’t sample it either. They all went back in the studio, rerecorded their parts. I was just cheesing when I got the mix back.”

Scooter & Friends also includes  “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine” with Charlie Wilson,  “Whiskey Said” featuring Lee Brice, plus “Swim Up Bar” and “Holding Down the Honky Tonk.” McCreery is co-headlining the Two For The Road Tour with Dustin Lynch.
