Scotty McCreery just crossed another item off of his bucket list, and it’s a big one. McCreery sings with the Gap Band frontman Charlie Wilson on “Once Upon A Bottle Of Wine.” The song is on McCreery’s Scooter & Friends EP, out now.
“I’ve been a massive fan of Charlie Wilson since I first heard him on the radio when I was a kid,” McCreery shares on social media. “He’s one of my favorite artists of all time. Getting to perform with him on stage a few years ago was a bucket list item for me. Being able to call him a friend means more than I can say. And now, having him sing with me on a song I wrote is a dream come true.”
Wilson comments on McCreery’s post, saying, “Love you buddy! Happy to be on this one with you.”

McCreery wrote “Once Upon A Bottle Of Wine” with his frequent collaborators, Brent Anderson, Derek George, Jeremy Bussey and Frank Rogers. Scooter & Friends also includes his current Top 15 single “Bottle Rockets” with Hootie & the Blowfish, plus “Whiskey Said” featuring Lee Brice, “Swim Up Bar” and “Holding Down the Honky Tonk.”
The 31-year-old admits he broke the mold in creating Scooter & Friends.
“I had a lot of fun creating this EP and performing some songs that are different from my normal sound, yet are still me,” McCreery says. “Getting to record with Hootie & the Blowfish, Lee Brice, and my hero Charlie Wilson on songs that I co-wrote with some of my favorite songwriters has been a blast.”
The release of “Once Upon A Bottle Of Wine” is just part of an exciting chapter for McCreery, who will become a father of two this fall, when his wife Gabi gives birth to their second child. For McCreery, nothing is as important to him as being a good parent to his children.
“That’s the real important stuff in life, right?” McCreery tells American Songwriter. “It’s been a fun season for us, just kind of gearing up for baby number two. We’re getting Avery prepped and ready. I think he’s finally grasping that his baby brother’s in mommy’s belly. I think he’s gonna be a great big brother.”
McCreery is heading out on a co-headlining Two For The Road Tour with Dustin Lynch in November, where he hints he might have his entire family with him, at least for some of the dates.
“The bus is baby-proofed,” he shares. “There’s a zip-up bunk crib kind of thing on there and stuffed animals. Whatever you need for the babies, it’s already on there. Just as soon as mama bear feels comfortable bringing the little one out, I think is when that will happen.”
