Scotty McCreery Inspires Massive Sing-Along to John Denver Classic In the UK [WATCH]

Scotty McCreery recently headlined his own tour in the UK. While overseas in Manchester, England,McCreery led a crowd in a massive sing-along to a John Denver classic, “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” a pure Americana song that the entire crowd knew.

In the video shared on social media, the crowd sings, “Country roads, take me home / To the place I belong / West Virginia,” even from across the ocean.

McCreery captions the video by saying, “I love singing ‘Country Roads’ with my British friends.”

McCreery has his own hit at radio right now. The American Idol alum has a Top 15 single with “Bottle Rockets,” his collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish. The song is from McCreery’s  Scooter & Friends EP, out on July 18. The song was written during a writing retreat, as McCreery prepares to release his next album.

“We had a lot of songs started going into that retreat, but this song came out of a conversation,” McCreery recalls on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen. “This was us reminiscing on previous summers, like ‘I remember my last summer of no job, no responsibilities and school was out. That was such a fun summer.’ And for me in the Carolinas, and I think for everybody worldwide, Hootie & the Blowfish were huge. It was just talking about those soundtracks of summer. I forget who played into it first, but the chords were kind of matching, and we were like, ‘Man, that’s kind of cool,’ so we just ran with it.”

Scooter & Friends also includes “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine,” which McCreery sings with R&B legend Charlie Wilson.

“Back home everyone calls me ‘Scooter,’ so since I’m singing with a few of my favorite artists, I decided to call this project Scooter & Friends,” McCreery says. “It’s a fun collection of songs that are a little different from what I normally sing, yet they are still me. If the fans like it, maybe there will be a second volume in a few years.”

McCreery has plenty of dates on the calendar over the next several weeks, before he takes time off to welcome his second child with his wife, Gabi. He will then join Dustin Lynch this fall on their co-headlining Two For The Road Tour, where it sounds like McCreery might have both of his children on the road with him.

“The bus is baby-proofed,” McCreery tells American Songwriter. “There’s a zip-up bunk crib kind of thing on there and stuffed animals. Whatever you need for the babies, it’s already on there. Just as soon as mama bear feels comfortable bringing the little one out, I think is when that will happen.”

Scooter & Friends also includes a song with Lee Brice, plus two other songs. Pre-save is available here. See a complete track list for Scooter & Friends below. Find “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine,” “Bottle Rockets,” and all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows at  ScottyMcCreery.com.
