Scotty McCreery is opening up about the loss of his grandmothers. In July, McCreery revealed that both of his grandmothers had passed away, within a few hours of each other. McCreery admits it was a tough thing to experience, especially losing both of them on the same day.
“I wrote ‘Five More Minutes‘ for [Paquita’s] husband, my grandfather Bill,” McCreery explains on Country Countdown USA. “My grandmother Paquita and grandmother Janet were special ladies. I feel fortunate that I got to have 31 years with them. It was a bit of a shock that it happened on the same day, within a few hours of each other. But again, I feel fortunate that I got to spend so much time with them.”
When announcing their unexpected passing, McCreery shared his overwhelming grief that the losses.
“My heart is absolutely broken,” McCreery writes on social media, sharing a photo of both women, from his wedding to Gabi. “Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away. I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them. There really are too many to count. From being on the farm in Elizabeth City or visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet.
“And then the incredible memories we made at the backyard pool in Pinehurst, all the way to visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita,” he continues. “Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly. If y’all could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.”

Scotty McCreery Becomes a Father of Two
On September 18, McCreery and Gabi welcomed their second son, Oliver Cooke, into he world. Oliver joins big brother, Avery, who will turn three next month. McCreery already knows that life is about to be a lot different in their home, especially with two small boys.
“We’re gonna have our hands full,” McCreery acknowledges. “Everybody says we’re going from zone defense to man to man, so we’ll see how this goes.”
McCreery wrapped up his final tour date, which happened in Switzerland, shortly before Oliver’s arrival.
“Yes, we just finished our last tour date, which was overseas. … So I’m glad the baby didn’t come while I was overseas,” he says.
Before announcing Oliver’s arrival, McCreery said his son Avery had an entirely different name picked out for his baby brother.
“Being from the Carolinas, we love our Bojangles,” McCreery tells CMT. “And he got locked in on a name called Bo Berry McCreery. And that’s what he wants his little brother to be named. And it’s like, we’re trying to tell him, ‘Buddy, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.’ And he’s like, ‘No! I want Bo Berry.’ We’ll see if he’s a little disappointed once he finds out the real name, but it’s been fun.”
McCreery has a No. 1 single right now, with “Bottle Rockets,” a collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish. The song is on McCreery’s latest Scotoer & Friends EP, released in July.
