Terri Clark Honored by Ashley McBryde At the Grand Ole Opry

Terri Clark was recently honored by Ashley McBryde, and it happened at the Grand Ole Opry. During Clark’s recent Opry performance, she received an exclusive scarf, designed by Manuel Cuevas, a gift all Grand Ole Opry members are receiving as part of the Opry’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebration. When presenting Clark with her scarf, host Kelly Sutton read a letter written to Clark by McBryde.

“She’s as witty as she is tall,” McBryde begins. “Her voice is as iconic as her hats are. It’s so recognizable, you’d be able to pick her voice out of a whole choir. Heck, half of the riffs I use, I learned from her records. She’s a fantastic cook, a stellar friend,  and an amazing mentor. I’m honored to be a woman in country music because of her and the women like her.

“TC, you taught me that grace and grit aren’t on opposite ends of the spectrum,” she continues. “They’re on the same end. And that in order to embody one, you better have equal amounts of both, and be ready to use them. I love you, sis.”

Terri Clark Talks About the Importance of the Grand Ole Opry

Clark was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on June 12, 2004. For Clark, who inducted McBryde into the Opry in 2022, being a member of the Grand Ole Opry will always be one of her biggest achievements.

“Just to be on the Opry is an honor,” Clark says. “I never thought I’d get to be a member. It’s a tremendous responsibility, too. I feel like a lot of us who are younger members of the Opry really need to make sure that we pass down the tradition of it, and make sure that younger people who are getting into country music know what it means.”

Terri Clark’s Recent Canadian Honor

Raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Clark recently received another honor, when she was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.

“When I was a young girl growing up in Alberta, with my sights set on the Grand Ole Opry and the CMA, my mother would often talk about one honor being head and shoulders above the rest… the Order of Canada,” Clark says. “The highest honor our country can bestow upon a civilian. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to see so many dreams and wishes come true in my life, but this one is for her. To be included among the likes of Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, k.d. lang and so many more is truly humbling. As a proud Canadian, I can’t thank the Governor General of Canada enough for this appointment.”
