Thomas Rhett Mourns Loss of Beloved Pet: 'He Was the Most Loyal, Kind Dog'

Thomas Rhett is mourning the loss of his beloved pet. Rhett reveals on social media that his dog, Cash, has passed away.

“Today our sweet little Cash man went to go be with Jesus,” Rhett writes. “He was the most loyal, kind dog that I have ever known. He was Lauren’s best friend. He was there when every single baby came home for the first time. He would stay up so many late nights with her while she was sick and I was gone. I never in a million years thought that a dog I got so frustrated with for eating food or tearing up things in the house would make me this sad.

“If you’ve got a dog, go give them some extra love,” he adds. “Our house is so quiet today. I know Cash is running around in heaven and will be the first one to greet us when we get there.”

Thomas Rhett And His Growing Family

Rhett and his wife,  Lauren Akins, recently celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary. Rhett and Akins are already proud parents to four girls, and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their fifth child, waiting until the baby’s arrival to find out if it is a boy or a girl.

“I remember when Lauren and I got married, she was always like, ‘You know, I do want five kids,’” Rhett recalls on SiriusXM‘s The Highway. “And 13 years ago, you’re kind of like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sounds good. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.’ And then you have one, and then you have two, and then you have three, and then you have four. And this last one, I just could not believe it, because actually, we’d been trying for quite a while. And not that we gave up trying, but we kind of just left it all just open-ended.”

Rhett originally wanted to find out if they were having a son or daughter ahead of time. But now, he is glad that they are leaving that as a surprise.

“I was kind of against it at first because I’m such a planner in life,” Rhett says of choosing to wait to find out the gender. “I really wanted to know. If it’s a girl, it’s like, ‘Oh, okay. I know how to do that.’ But if it’s a boy, I need to start stocking up on my books. I need to start learning how to raise a boy. But I think it is one of the very few surprises left in life. You can find anything out in the world. And so ,we’re gonna give the card to one of our friends so we have one friend in life that knows what the gender is, so that if it is a boy, we can have boy things. But yeah, I’m jacked.”

Rhett just released a new version of “Old Tricks” with Niall Horan, after first releasing a version with Blake Shelton.
