Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, recently announced that they are expecting their fifth child together. Now, Rhett, who has said he wants a large family, reveals whether or not they will have any more Akins give birth in 2026.
“I mean, five has kind of always been our number,” Rhett tells Taste of Country Nights. “Anything above five, we will have to get a Sprinter van.”
That means, Rhett may or may not ever have a son, since they are choosing not to find out the gender of their final child.
“Due date is in March, and we are going to wait until the day of to figure out what the gender is,” Rhett reveals.
“It’s terrifying for me,” he adds. “But there’s not many surprises left in this world, and I feel that’s one that you kinda get to be surprised with, if you choose to.”
Rhett goes on to say they are “genuinely excited.” Still, the 35-year-old is also making plans in case their last child is a son.
“If it’s a boy, we definitely need to change some of the nursery wallpaper, because it’s pretty girly,” Rhett says. “We’ll need to put some footballs on the wall or something like that.”

Rhett and Akins have been married since 2012. For Rhett, the secret to their successful marriage is to try to agree in all areas, even if getting there takes some work.
“Be aligned on all fronts,” Rhett says on Audacy. “Finances, the way that we’re gonna raise our kids, the schools we’re gonna go to, church we’re gonna go to. Just being [together] the whole way makes for so much more of a peaceful marriage. But it takes work, and it takes a lot of conversation. And maybe some arguments here and there, but I think just alignment is what I would say.”
Rhett and Akins have been open about going to therapy, working to become the best they can possibly be, together.
“Listen, we’ve done a lot of work,” Rhett reveals. “We’ve all done a lot of therapy. We’ve all worked a lot on ourselves. And I think that that’s kind of put us where we are now. And it’s been fun to pour into younger people. I feel like my wife and I both, we love doing that so much.”

Rhett just released his latest song, “On A River.” The romantic track is from his forthcoming About A Woman (Deluxe). The record will be out on September 26 on streaming platforms, and available on October 3 on CD and vinyl, features a total of 25 songs.
