Thomas Rhett Shares the Secret To His Happy Marriage to Lauren Akins

Thomas Rhett is celebrating a happy marriage to his wife of almost 13 years,  Lauren Akins. The couple, who just announced they are expecting their fifth child, has found the secret to their success, wisdom that Rhett is now sharing with the world.

“Be aligned on all fronts,” Rhett suggests on Audacy. “Finances, the way that we’re gonna raise our kids, the schools we’re gonna go to, church we’re gonna go to. Just being [together] the whole way makes for so much more of a peaceful marriage. But it takes work, and it takes a lot of conversation. And maybe some arguments here and there, but I think just alignment is what I would say.”

Rhett and Akins have been open about the struggles they have had in their marriage, struggles that ultimately made them stronger than ever.

“Listen, we’ve done a lot of work,” Rhett reveals. “We’ve all done a lot of therapy. We’ve all worked a lot on ourselves. And I think that that’s kind of put us where we are now. And it’s been fun to pour into younger people. I feel like my wife and I both, we love doing that so much.”

Thomas Rhett And His Growing Family

Rhett is a country music superstar, but his first priority is his growing family, even if Rhett acknowledges it’s is a stuggle to balance his career with his wife and children.

“Obviously, [I’ve] been blessed with an amazing family, blessed with being able to play shows and make music,” Rhett reflects. “But I think as my kids get older, it does become more challenging to do as much as I used to. I still try to keep up on social media, but at the same time, I do feel like when I am on social media a lot, then I’m neglecting something else. And my kids will always take precedence over that stuff.

“But at the same time,” he adds, “my wife and my kids know that this is what I love and what I was born to do, and so I think it’s just more about balancing the time now than it is just doing it all the time.”

Thomas Rhett Helps New Artists

Rhett has had plenty of highs in his career, including recently selling out Fenway Park. But for Rhett, he gets the most satisfaction, at least now, from what he does behind the scenes, helping other artists.

“That’s been kind of the biggest joy of my life right now,” says the singer. “I still love playing shows and love writing, but when younger artists do come to me and ask me for any, not even just show advice, but ‘How do I have a family and do this?’ or ‘How do I have kids and do this?,’ that’s gonna become one of my favorite parts of being in this business right now. Just sort of being a guy that’s done it for 14 years and made all the wrong decisions and some of the right ones, and being able to lead people in a direction where they can hopefully not do the same things bad that I did.”
