Happy anniversary to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill! The couple got married on October 6, 1996, after a whirlwind relationship, which began when Hill was serving as the opening act on McGraw’s Spontaneous Combustion Tour.
McGraw honors the milestone with a sweet post on social media, celebrating Hill.
“29 years ago, on this day Oct 6 1996, I was on cloud 9!” McGraw writes. “I was marrying the girl of my dreams, she was everything, my complete soulmate! We have been through so much together, our girls growing up, me trying to grow up, and you, you, you, always there, always there for all of us when we fell, always you when we triumphed, always you. When we love, when we live, when we think of how to love, live and dream, always you. You are my girl. I love you with a fire that grows each passing year.”

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Three Daughters
McGraw and Hill share three grown daughters: Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey. All successful adults, and pursuing their own careers, McGraw says it’s Hill who chose to make their family a priority over her career.
“I got to hand it to Faith,” McGraw tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “She right off the bat stepped back and said, ‘I’m going to raise my kids,’ so she gave up a huge part of her career for a long time to just raise kids, and that’s why our kids have turned out as well as they’ve turned out, because of her. I give her all the credit. She’s the best. I feel like I’ve got a lot more ahead of me and we’re looking forward to.”
The Secret To Their Successful Marriage
Not many marriages, especially ones with two celebrities, last as long as McGraw and Hill’s marriage has lasted. For McGraw, the secret to their successful marriage is really not much of a secret at all.
“I am not an expert,” McGraw tells his record label. “I don’t think anybody is. Marriage is — any relationship’s tough if you don’t cultivate it, and certainly if you’re not committed to it. Love and respect are always important, but I think that knowing that there’s gonna be tough times and knowing there’s gonna be times where you don’t like each other as much, all those things are gonna happen.
“I think that it’s knowing those things are gonna be there,” he adds. “Still knowing that you’re gonna get through the other side of it and you want to be together, and this is what you want your life to look like, I think is the important thing.”
The One Marriage Rule Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Live By
Early on, McGraw and Hill determined that they would stay together, no matter what trials they faced. It’s what has held them together for almost three decades.
“She gets all the credit,” McGraw tells his record label. “She’s put up with a lot with me. And I think just being best friends. We made an agreement when we first got married that every fight’s not gonna mean walking out the door, that we’re in this for the long haul, and we want to build a long, extended family. We want to be around together with our grandkids. It’s a commitment that we made to each other, and we’re so glad that we did, because we love being together. And when we’re not working, we’re together all the time.”
What Tim McGraw Says About Faith Hill
It’s Hill who McGraw credits with making him the best version of himself he can be, including being sober since 2008.
“I’ve been lucky,” McGraw tells Tracy Lawrence on his Road House podcast (via People). “I’ve been very fortunate. First off, meeting my wife saved my life. I was a wild man. I was having fun.”
“She turned my life around,” he continues. “I couldn’t have found a better woman. Not only beautiful and talented, but just a good, good person. And then having our daughters. It’s life-changing. They make you a better person, and they certainly calm the demons in you.”
On Hill’s recent 58th birthday, McGraw shared a sweet post paying tribute to his wife.
“My soulmate. My rock. My force of nature. My everything,” McGraw writes. “This is the best damn person that there is. Her heart is pure gold. Her love is unconditional. Her love is bigger than the universe. I love this woman. Happy birthday my love. And yes, I married waaaayyy above my head!”
