Trace Adkins isn’t sure how much longer he will be touring. In a recent interview, the 64-year-old, who is spending much of the year on his 30th Anniversary Tour, says he is unwilling to commit to anything past 2026.
“I just can’t believe I’m still around, and maybe somewhat relevant still,” Adkins tells Entertainment Tonight. “I’m just proud to be here, and glad that I have fans who have stuck with me all these decades. I’m gonna give them another year.”
When asked if he could go another three decades, Adkins gave an emphatic no.
“I don’t have another 30 in me,” he says.” I do not. No. I’m gonna give them this year. I’m gonna tour hard this year, but I can’t promise you anything after that.”

Adkins is reprising his role as Scott Brickell, MercyMe’s manager, for the upcoming I Can Only Imagine 2 film, out on February 20. Adkins also appeared in the blockbuster I Can Only Imagine film, one of the biggest films of 2018.
Both movies follow the story of Bart Millard, lead singer of MercyMe.
“It’s a great song,” Adkins says. “And for MercyMe’s fanbase, they just went crazy with the song. And then, when the movie came out … it’s a great story. Bart has a great story, and I was just happy to be a little part of that first movie. And then they wanted me to come back. I was like, ‘Absolutely.’ These guys are a lot of fun to work with. There’s no pressure, no stress on the set. I always like that. I’ve done three movies with these guys now, and I’ve told them that.”
Adkins is grateful to be part of I Can Only Imagine 2, but he insists he is a country singer, not an actor.
“I don’t really have an acting career,” Adkins tells the CMA. “I get to do it, some. But it’s not my career. It’s just something I do for fun. Well, I do this for fun too, really. But I’m very fortunate and blessed to get to do those things, and I really enjoy doing that stuff. I get a kick out of it. Whether I’m any good at it or not, I don’t know. I don’t worry about it.”
