2020 CMA Awards: Miranda Lambert Sets New Record With Seven Nominations

Miranda Lambert is the most nominated artist heading into the 2020 CMA Awards, with seven nods, including for Female Vocalist of the Year, and the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. The nominations not only hint that the tide might — finally — be changing for female artists, but also set a CMA Awards record. With her latest nods, Miranda is now the most-nominated woman in CMA Awards history, with an impressive 55 nominations.

Miranda spoke out about the nominations on social media.

“Thank you from the bottom of my honky tonk heart for all of the years of support and acceptance,’ Miranda wrote. “I love being part of the country music family. Songs and shows are what make my world go round.”

Miranda broke the record previously held by Reba McEntire, who received her 51st nod this year, for her contribution to Thomas Rhett’s “Be a Light,” which is nominated for Musical Event of the Year.

The industry recognition comes shortly after Miranda celebrated her No. 1 hit with “Bluebird,” marking her first reign at the top of the charts in eight years. She just released “Settling Down,” which she wrote with Natalie Hemby and Luke Dick, the same writers who helped her pen “Bluebird.”

“My mom always tells me — it’s where the line [in the song] comes from — but she would always say, ‘You’re a wild child and a homing pigeon,’ because I really love to be home,” Miranda said of the song. “I love my animals and my family and, you know, making casseroles and listening to Merle Haggard. I love to be on my own porch, but I also can leave and be ready to go anywhere in 15 minutes.

“I just need a guitar and some fringe and I’m ready to roll out the door,” she continued. “Everything else you can buy at Target, you know what I mean? I have this itch always to find a new adventure, but I’m always so ready to just walk through my own front door.”

Miranda shares the Entertainer of the Year category with Eric Church, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. She also shares the Female Vocalist of the Year category with Carrie, along with Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves. Her other nominations are for Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year, all for “Bluebird,” Album of the Year, for Wildcard, and Musical Event of the Year, for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”

The 2020 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on November 11 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
