6 Country Artists Never Nominated for an ACM Award

The 2020 ACM Awards are only a few hours away, with artists like Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett and more each nominated for multiple trophies. While there were some notable snubs this year, like the absence of both Jason Aldean and Kane Brown in the list of nominees, we dug a little deeper to see which artists have never been nominated for an ACM Award. Keep reading to see the surprising list.

1. Ryan Hurd

Ryan Hurd might still be a relative newcomer to country music, but he’s done enough to earn some kind of recognition from the Academy of Country Music. With songwriting credits including the Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe duet, “Lonely Tonight,” and Lady A’s “What If I Never Get Over You” (which earned the trio an ACM Award for Single of the Year), not to mention his own rising star status, we can only hope that his name will soon appear on the list of nominees.

2. Matt Stell

Like Ryan, we can only hope that Matt Stell’s day is coming. After the massive success of last year’s “Prayed for You,” which he co-wrote, from his also-successful Everywhere But On album, he seems like he should have been a likely contender for New Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, or even Video of the Year. Maybe next year.

3. Home Free

The five-man, all-vocal group Home Free has been churning out covers for more than a decade, famously winning NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2013. While they have failed to have a hit at radio, their YouTube channel has racked up millions of views. They also continue to boast impressive album sales. With their recent collaboration with Lee Greenwood on “God Bless the U.S.A.,” it is likely they will, finally, be nominated next year.

4. Ray Stevens

Ray Stevens success was enough to earn him a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but not to win him an ACM Award. Perhaps because his songs were more comedic than serious, Ray still had plenty of time on the charts, including with “The Streak,” which became a No. 1 hit.

5. Sammy Kershaw

It seems unlikely that Sammy Kershaw never was even nominated for an ACM Award, but it’s true. The Louisiana native had a string of hits in the ’90s, including “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful” and “Love of My Life,” but failed to receive even a nomination from the Academy of Country Music.

6. Dustin Lynch

Dustin Lynch’s lack of nominations is the one that continues to leave us baffled. With a series of hit singles, including “Hell of a Night” and “Small Town Boy,” plus massive headlining tours, there’s not one legitimate reason that Dustin has yet to receive a nomination. Not one.

The 2020 ACM Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, September 16, at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
