Happy anniversary to Scotty McCreery and his wife, Gabi! The couple got married on June 16, 2018, in their home state of North Carolina.
Scotty and Gabi began dating while he was in high school, although their romance goes back even before then. In kindergarten, Gabi already predicted she would someday marry Scotty.
“We go way back,” Scotty said on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “We’ve been friends our entire life. She’s my best friend, my wife …We met our very first day of kindergarten class. We found her kindergarten diary in her parents’ attic, and she has ‘Mrs. Gabi McCreery’ written in hearts all over it. I’m so glad she did [claim it]. She’s the best thing ever.”
Scotty proposed to Gabi while they were on a hike in the mountains of North Carolina.
“I’ve been planning this moment for so long that it feels surreal for it to have finally happened,” he told People at the time. “Gabi is the perfect girl and my true love, and I cannot wait to begin building our life together as husband and wife.”
Scotty shared clips of his wedding in his hit single, “This Is It,” which became his second No. 1 single.
“It was a lot,” Scotty recalled to PopCulture.com, speaking of their wedding. “I really was fine the whole day. I held it together and then we did a first look, and I could almost feel her presence coming behind me. When I did, I just started crying. All her bridesmaids were upstairs at the estate. They were looking all going, ‘Ooh!’ It was a lot. It was very overwhelming but a very big, great moment I guess you could say.”
Not that it’s all been easy for them. After winning American Idol, Scotty became very busy as his career took off. It would become a defining moment in their relationship.
“I was making records and writing songs and out on tour,” Scotty recalled on social media. “She was thinking about breaking up with me, because I wasn’t making time for her. She brought that to my attention, and it was an eye-opener for me. I realized if she’s the most important thing in your world, you’ve gotta treat her like that. From that day forward, that’s been my goal every day.”
Scotty was already deeply in love with his wife when they became parents in 2022, when their firstborn, Avery, was born.
“I thought I loved her a lot before. She’s the mother of my son, and now I’m finding that I love her even more,” Scotty told Music Mayhem. “She’s a champ. She’s working so hard and doing so great as a mom already. So, I’ll be writing for sure a lot of songs about her and definitely tying the kiddo into some songs. Maybe writing for him too. I think it’s all great things right now. We’re in a great season.”
As Scotty’s career continues to soar, it’s Gabi who is his strongest supporter, even amid his sometimes crazy schedule.
“Gabi has been a rock for me,” McCreery told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I wouldn’t be here without her. She’s been here for all the ups and downs and has always been my biggest cheerleader.”

Scotty and Gabi recently announced that they are expecting their second child,
“A new best friend coming this fall,” the couple shared.
Scotty loves being a husband and a father. He tries to bring his family out on the road as much as he can, making them a priority over his career.
“It’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me for sure,” Scotty recently told Us Weekly. “[Avery’s] already two and a half and running around and he’s talking a mile a minute. It’s just so fun watching him grow. Having two is gonna be insane. … The coolest, best thing I’ve ever done is being a dad.”
Scotty currently has a Top 25 hit with “Bottle Rockets,” his collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish. He and Dustin Lynch will kick off their co-headlining Two For The Road Tour in November.
