Alexandra Kay Releases Romantic New Song, 'The Last' [WATCH]

Alexandra Kay has a brand-new song, out now. The singer-songwriter just released “The Last.” The romantic tune is from a forthcoming new album, her first on BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville,

“This song represents starting over with someone new,” shares Kay. “It doesn’t matter what experiences you’ve had before you met them, all that matters is that you finally found the one you want to spend your last days with.”

“The Last” was likely inspired by Kay’s relationship with her band member Rocko Beall, whom she fell in love with following her divorce from Indiana Touchette.

“I came from All I’ve Ever Known, my last album, being just very serious, and a very serious topic about my divorce, and me really digging into my emotions and growing through that,” Kay tells Country Now. “And I was like, ‘Where I’m at right now is I’m so confident, I’m so happy, and I’m just in a very pink and girly and fun place in my life.’ And so I think that was a great representation of that.”

All I’ve Ever Known included songs like  “Everleave,” “Painted Him Perfect” and more. With her next project, the Illinois native is in a much happier place in her life personally, which transcends into her music.

“This was a very interesting process because it was the first time that I’ve written a record out of happiness and joy and independence and self-discovery,” Kay explains. “It’s been really, really cool to discover who I am as a songwriter when I’m not writing through heartache. And so I’m very excited for everybody to hear kind of the mix.”

Still, Kay promises that not all of the songs on her forthcoming album will be sunshine and roses.

“There are some songs that bridge that gap between All I’ve Ever Known and this new record,” Kay acknowledges. “There are some songs that kind of look back and say, ‘Oh, okay, now that I am in a new relationship and I’m happy and I’m secure.’ It does make me look back sometimes and say, ‘I wonder what went wrong. I wonder why we couldn’t get here’…So we’re not just going from All I’ve Ever Known being the heartbreak record straight into a happiness record. There are some songs that kind of meet you in the middle and ease you into this new era. So I’m excited for everybody to hear it.”

Kay already released the fiery “Cupid’s A Cowgirl” from her next set of tunes. The song is, according to Kay, a good indication of what fans can expect from her.

“I had just as much fun writing this song with Thrasher Gruft and Cheyanna Rose Arnspiger, as I’ve had promoting it these past couple of weeks,” Kay says. “I’m pretty sure we disturbed every other writing room in BMG that day, as we jumped on the couches and screamed the chorus for the demo. This song represents my lover-girl era. She is fun and pink and playful and thriving. Cupid is a cowgirl, and she knows exactly what she wants.”

Kay will have plenty of chances to perform songs from her new album this year. She is joining Brad Paisley for select dates on his Truck Still Works Tour. Kay is currently headlining her All I’ve Ever Known: The Tour, which includes a series of shows in the UK, many of which are sold-out.
