Why Rascal Flatts Released ‘Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets’
When Rascal Flatts announced they were releasing Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets, it was a way to celebrate the group’s 25th anniversary. The new record arrives exactly 25 years after their eponymous freshman record came out on June 6, 2000.
Why Rascal Flatts Invited Other Artists to Join Them On Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets
Rascal Flatts wanted other artists to join them on Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets as a way to thank their fans, many who have been with them for a quarter of a century.
“It was such an honor to create this project with such incredibly talented artists,” Gary LeVox says. “It’s a pretty indescribable feeling having your colleagues and friends do your songs in such unique ways and knock your socks off with the results. This album is just another attempt for us to thank our fans for the blessings they’ve given us on this crazy journey the past 25 years. Thanks for riding along with us!”
How Rascal Flatts Got Other Artists To Join Them On Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets
Believe it or not, Rascal Flatts chose and asked each of the artists on Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets. Even better, they all said yes!
“It’s very humbling to think about the fact that you reach out to your friends and they want to be a part of it, give a nod to whatever we’ve been able to do in the industry,” Jay DeMarcus says. “It was really special for everyone to say yes, ‘We’d love to be a part of it.’ That was one of the things that I was most grateful for.”
Why Rascal Flatts Broke Up
None of the members in Rascal Flatts have pointed fingers, but it seems like Rooney was a large part in the trio’s split, since he was also battling alcohol addiction at the time. Fortunately, Joe Don Rooney got sober in 2021, after he was in a car accident while intoxicated, and has never looked back.
“We all kind of went our separate ways and did our own things,” Rooney tells Audacy. “Obviously, I had to do a lot of things on myself and I’m really grateful for that time.”
“It was time well spent… to rejuvenate, spend time with my kids, refocus my energy as a father,” he adds. “And I’m super thankful for that time. My connection with my kids has never been better.”
What’s Next For Rascal Flatts After Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets
Rascal Flatts originally planned on going on their farewell tour in 2020, a tour that didn’t happen because of the pandemic. But now, it seems that Rascal Flatts are back together, for good.
“I don’t think we’ll ever be one of those bands that can’t play and make music somehow,” DeMarcus says. “And it may be years from now that we’re just doing the Opry a few times a year, and old men just sitting on our porch, getting around playing with our guitars. But I think the three of us will be making music somehow until one of us kicks the bucket.”
