Another new song is coming from Alexandra Kay! The singer-songwriter announces the release of “What He Does” on September 12. The song is from her forthcoming Second Wind album, out on October 24, on BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville.
The song says in part, “You said I was asking too much / But if you did what he does / Oh he makes it look so easy, why the hell was it so tough / If you loved like he loved / Oh, just like that I’d have never had a reason to run / And I’d die before I’d go back to that life / But sometimes I wonder what it might be like / If you did what he does.”

Alexandra Kay’s New ‘Second Wind’ Album
Second Wind follows Kay’s debut All I’ve Ever Known album, out in 2023. That record shared Kay’s heartbreak and resilience over the end of her former marriage.
“I’m so ready to share these songs with the people who have been with me every step of the way,” Kay says. “Over the past two years, I’ve done a lot of growing — and over the last year, I’ve had the chance to write about the version of myself that’s emerged from that growth. This album reflects a new side of me, and I can’t wait for my fans to experience it live — especially the happier songs that I’m hoping they’ll be screaming right back at me from the crowd.”
Kay calls Second Wind a beautiful next chapter, coming from the heartache of All I’ve Ever Known.
“I started writing Second Wind, the album, last year,” Kay tells Country Swag. “What I really wanted to do, and what I kept at the forefront of my mind when it comes to this record is, I didn’t want the fans to listen to it and think it was so incredibly different from All I’ve Ever Known, the album. Because the truth is, that’s not how healing happens. You don’t go from feeling how I felt in All I’ve Ever Known, then jump to pure happiness and love again.”
“What’s really cool about this record is, you get these songs that happened during this transition period,” Kay says. “I’m really excited for fans to feel my healing through beginning track one all the way to track fourteen … I really take everyone on a ride on how to transition to trusting someone with my heart again, and really living in that.”
What Songs Are On ‘Second Wind’
Kay has already released several songs from Second Wind, including her current single, “Straight For The Heart,” which she predicts will be her first No. 1 hit. She’s also released “Cupid’s a Cowgirl,” “The Last,” and “Feminine Energy.”
Kay wrote 12 of the 14 songs on Second Wind below. She will kick off her headlining Second Wind: The Tour on September 26 in Atlanta, Georgia, performing in 30 cities, concluding on November 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. See a track list below.
