Cody Johnson is speaking out about his multiple nominations for the upcoming CMA Awards. Johnson is nominated for four awards, including Entertainer of the Year.
“What a great honor it is to be recognized for simply loving country music so much,” Johnson says. “I’m grateful for the liberty I have in this business to create the music I want to make. And grateful to the fans who have stood by me for many years to get us to this point. I’m having the time of my life!”
What Cody Johnson Is Nominated For At The CMA Awards
In addition to Entertainer of the Year, Johnson is nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, and Music Video of the Year, the latter two for his “I’m Gonna Love You” duet with Carrie Underwood.
Johnson shares the Entertainer of the Year category with Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson. For Male Vocalist of the Year, he is nominated alongside Combs, Stapleton, Wallen and Zach Top.
The Musical Event of the Year category also includes “Don’t Mind If I Do” with Riley Green and Ella Langley, Hard Fought Hallelujah with Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll, Pour Me A Drink” with Post Malone and Blake Shelton and Megan Moroney and Kenny Chesney’s “You Had to Be There.”
In the Music Video of the Year category, Johnson is joined by Moroney’s “Am I Okay?,” “Somewhere Over Laredo” by Wilson, Stapleton’s “Think I’m In Love With You” and Langley and Green’s “You Look Like You Love Me.”
Who Else Is Nominated At The CMA Awards
Wilson, Langley and Moroney lead the list of nominees, with a total of six nominations each. They are followed by Top, with five nominations. Johnson and Green both have four nominations each. Combs, Stapleton and Wallen have three nominations each.
When Will The CMA Awards Be On
The CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, November 19 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. The show will stream the next day on Hulu.

Johnson has a Top 40 single with “The Fall,” from Leather Deluxe. The song is likely the last single from his latest album, since Johnson reveals he is hard at work on his next project.
“I have been recording,” Johnson shares at a recent media event. “Before Leather Deluxe was even really out, I was listening to songs and just kind of getting what’s next. I like to stay ahead of things. I cannot stand when things are chaotic and rushed. I hate putting a date on something and then having to do it up to the date. I like organization and structure at work. Sometimes you can’t have that. It’s live music, it’s a music business. You gotta roll with the punches, and sometimes stuff happens like.”
Johnson’s Leather album won Album of the Year at least year’s CMA Awards, a welcome, and unexpected surprise for the Texan.
“We just got Album of the Year before the Deluxe came out, which was not intentional either,” Johnson says. “We were waiting. … I would say I’ve got a little bit of work for the rest of the year to get done with this record. I don’t want to talk a whole lot about it, because I’m still kind of playing with artwork and photography and the theme of this thing. I don’t want to ever do the same thing twice.”
