Scotty McCreery Says Son Avery 'Loves' What His Father Does For a Living

Scotty McCreery is one proud father. The singer and his wife, Gabi, welcomed their second child, son, Oliver Cooke, into the world on September 18. Oliver joins their first son, Avery, who was born on October 24, 2022. Although it will take Oliver a while to understand what his father does for a living, Avery is already beginning to grasp the Grand Ole Opry member’s job.

“He loves it,” McCreery reveals to Audacy. “He used to never listen to my music in my truck, and now I have to, ’cause it’s all he wants to listen to. It’s very sweet. He gets to come on the road probably one weekend a month at least with Gabi. If we’re going on the road, he’s not wearing anything but his boots. No tennis shoes, no crocs. He’s like, ‘If we’re going on the road, I’m wearing my overalls and my boots. We’re going to a country show.’

“He’s come on stage a few times, and just loves it,” he adds. “Fans bring him gifts. They’ve really accepted him. It’s just been so cool and sweet to watch, as a Daddy, that he wants to be a part of everything.”

Scotty McCreery Opens Up About Having Two Boys

McCreery is thrilled to have two sons, even though he initially thought he would have a daughter instead.

“I was pumped,” he says of finding out the gender. “I think we both thought it was going to be a girl, because Gabi, the early part of her pregnancy felt completely different than how she felt with Avery. So we were like, ‘Oh, it’s gotta be a girl.’ But I guess that’s not exactly a tell, and it’s another boy. I was the only boy left on the McCreery side, and my whole family’s like, ‘You gotta carry on.’ So now all my crazy uncles are happy with me, I guess.”

Scotty McCreery’s Son Avery Chose His Own Name For His Little Brother

Oliver is a little more than a month old, with Avery already becoming a doting big brother, even if the toddler did have a different name picked out.

“Being from the Carolinas, we love our Bojangles,” McCreery tells CMT. “And he got locked in on a name called Bo Berry McCreery. And that’s what he wants his little brother to be named. And it’s like, we’re trying to tell him, ‘Buddy, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.’ And he’s like, ‘No! I want Bo Berry.’ We’ll see if he’s a little disappointed once he finds out the real name, but it’s been fun.”

Scotty McCreery Celebrates His 7th No. 1 Single, With “Bottle Rockets”

McCreery has more to celebrate than just becoming a father of two. The 32-year-old recently had his seventh No. 1 single, with Bottle Rockets,” his collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish.

“We officially have the No. 1 song in the US of A,” McCreery says. “‘Bottle Rockets’ is No. 1. Me and Hootie & the Blowfish, this is unreal y’all. It’s unreal. It never gets old. I think this No. 1 is extra special, just being that it’s with the group that I grew up listening to. [They’ve] been heroes of mine for a long time, and now it’s just super cool to be able to call them friends. I just want to thank all of y’all for listening to the song, letting it be a part of your summer. Country radio, thank y’all for playing it for everybody, and taking this thing all the way to the top, No. 1.”
