Riley Green On His 4 CMA Awards Nominations, Surprise Success of Viral Hit With Ella Langley

Riley Green is nominated for four CMA Awards heading into this week’s ceremony. Green is nominated for Single of the Year,  Song of the Year, and Video of the Year, all for his “You Look Like You Love Me” duet with Ella Langley. He is also nominated with Langley for Musical Event of the Year for their “Don’t Mind If I Do” collaboration.

The two also won in the Musical Event of the Year category last year, for “You Look Like You Love Me.”

“Being nominated for Musical Event is a really special thing, because I wrote ‘Don’t Mind If I Do,’ and it was one of my favorite songs on the album,” Green tells the Country Music Association. “It became the title track on my album when it came out. And again, Ella did such a great job on that song. It’s one of my favorite songs to play live on the road. To be able to have a little recognition on a song that you wrote is a big deal.”

Green will also get to perform, singing another song he wrote and a recent No. 1 hit for him.

“This year I’m performing ‘Worst Way’ on the CMA stage,” Green says. “It’s such a cool thing to get to come to these awards. To be able to actually perform and play a song of mine that was a big hit in the last year is gonna be a really cool moment.”

Riley Green’s Surprise Over the Success of “You Look Like You Love Me”

Green and Langley wrote “You Look Like You Love Me” with Aaron Raitiere. Green immediately loved the song, but he admits he had no idea the song would be such a massive success story.

“Having such a big, viral moment with ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ just goes to show you that I don’t know what a hit is,” Green says with a laugh. “Because I thought it was a cool song. I thought talking verses were probably a little too traditional. And it’s been so amazing to see what that song has become. Obviously, Ella’s had such a great moment with it. It’s been awesome to watch her career with that song. And it’s a really fun song to play.”

What Riley Green Says About His Four CMA Awards Nominations

Green is thrilled with his four CMA Awards nominations, especially since it is something he wasn’t anticipating.

“It’s never something that you really expect,” Green says. “I always think about things as just a fan of country music because it’s not too long ago that I was [a fan]. You see the names that are mentioned in winning these awards and being nominated. And then to get thrown in with that is always a big deal. And I’m excited to have it lifted up there with all these other great songs and collaborations.”

Langley, Megan Moroney, and Lainey Wilson lead the list of nominees with six nods each. They are followed by Zach Top with five nominations, and Green and Cody Johnson, who have four each.

The 2025 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 19, at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. The show will stream the next day on Hulu.
