Jelly Roll might soon have a new career. After announcing that he was taking some time off last month, the singer says that he has no idea if he is returning to country music or not.

“Everything that Jason or Jelly Roll wanted to do in the music business, I’ve done that,” Jelly Roll tells Y’all Access. “So at this point, I really need to go talk to God, and see if He wants me to stick around, and what He wants me to do next. If God tells me to go work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Kentucky, I’m out of here. Y’all will never see me again. … He gave me everything I ever wanted. Grammys, ACMs, CMAs. I’m a member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Jelly Roll, who split from his wife, Bunnie Xo, earlier this year, is open to whatever his next chapter look like, even if it isn’t in country music.

“I’m just gonna go do a little bit of work on myself, to make sure that I’m all the way ready,” Jelly Roll maintains. “I’m completely sober, though. I’m clear-headed. I’m deep in therapy. I’m deep in my Bible. But I think that I’ve got to separate from the chaos of the business, for me to really hear what God wants to do for me next.”

Jelly Roll was on tour with Post Malone when he said he was stepping away for an extended period of time.

“This has truly been a lifetime experience for me,” Jelly Roll told the crowd (via People). “And in a couple of nights, I go to Colorado Springs and do my last show for a year or two. I’m fixing to take some time off and heal. Thank you for the opportunity.”

Jelly Roll Honors Dolly Parton

Jelly Roll may not have any concert dates on his tour calendar right now, but he did recently go back to work, when he was a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a week. While on the show, he took time to honor Dolly Parton, who had just passed away.

“She was such an inspiration to so many, myself included,” Jelly Roll said. “We’re both from Tennessee, and she meant a lot to my family. We used to sit around the kitchen table and listen to her music together as a family. I’ll never forget it. I learned so much from Dolly over the years, about songwriting, how to handle this crazy business, and how to support your community. So I want to send my love to East Tennessee and Sevier County right now, and represent her.

“We love you, Dolly. We miss you,” he added. “She was infinitely talented. She was relentlessly funny, and adored by all. She might be the last American that everyone liked. We will miss her dearly. Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you.”

Jelly Roll does have a Top 15 single at country radio, with “Hands Up.”
