Lauren Alaina Speaks Out As 'All My Exes' With Chase Matthew Hits No. 4

Lauren Alaina is speaking out about “All My Exes,” her duet with Chase Matthew. The song, from her latest Stages album, is currently at No. 4 on the country chart, and still climbing.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Alaina begins in a video she shares on social media. “I’m so excited about this song. I’m so grateful for this song, and what it’s done for my career. I’m 15 years into this career, y’all. And my last No. 1 that I put out was ‘Road Less Traveled,’ and it was nine years ago. That song has carried me through this career, and opened doors, and given me things I could have never even imagined. I’ve been putting out music, and wanting something to go to the top of the charts again.”

Alaina goes on to share that she did have other chart-topping singles, both her “What Ifs” with Kane Brown and “One Beer” with HARDY. Still, it’s even more meaningful for Alaina to have a song she wrote and released on her own get closer to No. 1.

“For this song to be in the Top 4, and we’re staring down a No. 1, I’m just so grateful,” Alaina says. “As a little girl, all I ever wanted was to hear my songs on the radio. And so it’s been such a priority to me to have my songs played on the radio. We’re so close to another No. 1. This would just be so crazy. Nine years is a long time to hope and pray for something, and now I see myself so close to having this dream and this goal come true for myself, and I’m just so grateful. Thank y’all for loving this song. Country radio, thank you for playing this song. I’m so proud. Chase, thank you for recording this song with me. You made it so much better when you recorded on it. I’m grateful, I’m excited.”

Why Having “All My Exes” Do So Well Means So Much to Lauren Alaina

Any artist would of course love to have a hit single at radio. But for Alaina, it’s even extra special, since the success comes after she married her husband, Cam Arnold, and became a mother to her daughter, Beni Doll, who is now one.

“Being able to do all of the things: have this song go up the charts while I’m raising my daughter is just so special to me,” Alaina says. “Anyone out there with a dream, you gotta dream it, even if it feels so out of reach. Just keep trying and keep believing, because if I had given up in the last nine years, and thought maybe that I had my moment, I wouldn’t have this moment now, and I wouldn’t have these people come to the shows, screaming this song. I’m just very grateful. I’m so excited.”

The Story Behind Lauren Alaina’s “All My Exes” Duet With Chase Matthew

Alaina has her husband to thank for releasing “All My Exes” at all, let alone as a duet with Matthew.

“So I had written this song a couple years before, and it was Cameron’s favorite,” Alaina tells Everything Nash. “And I’m like, ‘I write you songs all the time. Your favorite song of mine is the one about my exes. Okay, Cameron.’ But he was like, ‘You have to do this song. I’m just telling you, this will be a huge song for you. You’ve never done anything like it. I’m just telling you, this is a hit song.’ Well, we go on tour with Jason Aldean. I have no plans to cut this song, put this song on the record. We’re not going this direction at all.

“And Cameron played it for Chase, and was like, ‘You have to do this song with Lauren. I’m telling you, it’s a hit,’” she continues. “And then Chase was like, ‘What? Yeah, I’m in. Let’s do this.’ So then Cameron came to me and said, ‘You should play that song for Chase. I bet he would love it.’ He had already committed to doing it to Cameron. They let me think it was my idea, which was a smart thing.”
