Alexandra Kay is opening up about her romance with Rocko Beall. The two began dating after her divorce, with Kay now admitting she is madly in love.
“I’m in a new relationship,’ Kay says on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast. “I got a beau. My boyfriend and I have been together for like a year now. It’s sticking. He’s my guitar player.”
In spite of Kay’s busy schedule, with both her Second Wind: The Tour, and her radio tour in support of her “Straight For the Heart” single from Second Wind, Kay says they are still enjoying time together.
“We don’t really fight in general, to be honest. We bicker,” Kay says. “We don’t fight, we bicker. But you know what I think is really great is the fact that he was already my guitar player before. So we had the working relationship first. And then the romantic relationship second.”
How Alexandra Kay Fell in Love With Rock Beall
On Kay’s debut All I’ve Ever Known album, she chronicles her pain and heartache over the end of her marriage. She now says she wasn’t necessarily looking when she realized she was beginning to develop feelings for Beall. Not surprisingly, Kay told her close friend and manager, Beth Keith, first.
“Honestly, I didn’t look at him like that. I didn’t. I was single for the first time in 11 years, and he was very reliable,” Kay recalls. “He was very sweet, very kind. He’s great. He’s like one of the best guys I’ve ever met. He really is. He’s an incredible person. To be completely honest, one night, we were having beers backstage, like one will do after a show. And I looked over at Beth, and I was like, ‘Rocko’s kind of cute.’ She was like, ‘What?’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ve just had too much.'”
Because Kay and Beall also work together, the Illinois native acknowledges it didn’t take long for her to fall for Beall, and fall hard.
“I feel like I fell in love with him before I ever even liked him, and had a crush on him,” Kay concedes. “It was just, I loved him so much as a person, as a human, as a friend. And then, when I started to feel that romantic connection and that attraction to him like that, ’cause he was single and I was single at the same time. We spent so much time together, that’s when I started to look at him in a different light.”

How Alexandra Kay and Rocko Beall Started Dating
Kay reveals how she and Beall went from bandmates to being romantically involved. Perhaps surprisingly, Beall initially turned down the idea of dating.
“I basically just started flirting with him and stuff, and he would joke around about it,” Kay shares. “And then I asked him one time, I was like, ‘There’s something between us. I’m not the only one feeling this.’ And he was like, ‘That’s never going to happen …because I love my job, and I love it here. And this could completely ruin this whole thing.’ As a touring family, we’re so close. Literally like my family. And he was like, ‘I’m not going to be the one to ruin this dynamic.’
“And then he ended up coming around to the idea,'” she adds with a laugh.
All joking aside, Kay is thrilled to be with Beall, and be able to share both her personal and professional life with him, especially as her career continues to grow.
“He’s great. Right place, right time kind of thing, to where I was looking, seeing him in a different light,” Kay says. “And then when we got together, the really cool thing was that, if you really unpack my last record, a lot of it was me feeling in my relationship like every little bit of love and affection was like pulling it out. And honestly feeling like I was high-maintenance when it came to love. I remember my ex used to tell me things like, ‘You need to stop watching Instagram reels,’ and ‘Real relationships aren’t like that.’
“When Rocko and I got together, he just proved to me in such a short time, and still does a year later, that I wasn’t asking too much,” she remarks. “I was just asking the wrong person. … I am happier than I’ve ever been.”
