Alexandra Kay is giving fans an acoustic version of her new single, “Straight For The Heart.” The song is on her sophomore Second Wind album, available now.

“Straight For The Heart” is written by Jimmy Robbins, Karley Scott Collins, and Sasha Sloan. One of only two that Kay didn’t write for Second Wind, it’s also the song that she predicts will be her first No. 1 single at country radio.

”’Straight For The Heart’ is actually my first outside cut by myself,” Kay tells Country Swag. “I actually heard this song while sitting in a pitch meeting for some songs. As soon as it played, I had to have that song. I love it. I love that it really describes how I felt with this kind of female intuition of knowing that things were going south and being strong enough to know that I didn’t have to get let down easy.”

Alexandra Kay Shares Inspiration Behind ‘Second Wind’

Second Wind follows Kay’s bold and honest All I’ve Ever Known album, released in 2023. With Second Wind, Kay is in a much different, and happier place, which is reflected in the songs on Second Wind. Unlike All I’ve Ever Known, Second Wind shows Kay falling in love again, and trusting again, this time with her band member, Rocko Beall.

“It was a very conscious decision to describe what it felt like opening my heart again to someone else,” Kay tells Billboard. “I was very much living that, so I was like, ‘Let me just start writing love songs,’ which I had never done. You don’t just flip a switch and automatically you’re trusting and open to love again. I wanted to take people through that process.”

Kay hopes that her fans are inspired, through all of the songs on Second Wind, that healing is possible.

“This record represents growth out of a time when my whole life was just falling apart,” Kay tells Rolling Stone. “I feel like I’m giving a lot of hope to a lot of people who connected with the last record… The same women that I held in my arms that were bawling their eyes out because they were leaving their relationship are now, two years later, introducing me to their new boyfriends.”
