Alexandra Kay Recalls Teenage Crush on Scotty McCreery

Alexandra Kay is now happily dating her bandmate, Rocko Beall, but long ago, she once had a crush on Scotty McCreery! Kay recalls being enamored by McCreery, shortly after he won Season 10 of American Idol in 2011.

McCreery and Kay both had headlining shows in the UK earlier this year, which is where Kay recalls her infatuation with McCreery.

I love Scotty!!” Kay gushes to the Scottish Music Network. “Do you wanna hear a funny story? When I was about 18 years old, I was a hostess at a restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel.”

Kay goes on to recall that she found out that McCreery would be coming in that day, even though the information was supposed to be kept top secret.

“Everyone knew I loved Scotty – this was right after American Idol,” Kay says. “So you best believe I went home, put all my makeup on, waited for him to come in, and sure enough he did. I was in my head like ‘We are in love,’ but that was a long time ago.”

Their paths have since crossed, although she has yet to talk to him since her own career took off.

“I loved him,” Kay says. “It’s crazy, ’cause our trailers were right next to each other at Stagecoach, but I’ve actually never met him in person during my career.”

Kay’s teenage crush likely didn’t have a chance anyway, since McCreery was already dating his now-wife, Gabi, while on American Idol. Kay has also found happiness in her love life with Beall, after experiencing a devastating divorce from her first husband, Indiana Touchette. Kay details those feelings in her debut All I’ve Ever Known record, out in 2023. Now, Kay is working on a new album, her first on  BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, with this one showing Kay’s deep love for Beall, including in a song called “The Last.”

“I was talking about how I was in a new relationship, and I was very happy and am still in that relationship,” Kay tells Country Now. “And the one thing that always kind of stayed in the back of my mind is, I really hope that me having some of these life experiences before him doesn’t sour them for him at some point in life.

“And so that was kind of just the conversation we were having,” she continues. “And we just started talking about how we wanted to write a song about how it doesn’t matter anything that’s happened prior to this. It’s like life starts now with you and it doesn’t matter what happened first as long as I do that last with you.”

Life – and music – has come full-circle for Kay, who now performs “The Last” on stage with Beall, who inspired the song.

“We perform it together every night acoustic, and it’s a real moment. It’s wonderful,” Kay says, reflecting on how much has changed for her since All I’ve Ever Known was released.

“It feels great,” boasts the singer. “On my last album, there’s a song called ‘Painted Him Perfect.’ And in that song it says, ‘I’d sing his praises on every stage, and he just had to mention he hates the attention.’ And so, it feels really cool in my life to be up there with somebody that I can just love so loudly, and he’s not embarrassed by that, and he loves me so loudly and so proudly, and it’s just a really healthy scenario. It feels amazing.”

Kay is joining Brad Paisley for select dates this year on his Truck Still Works Tour. Find all of Kay’s music and upcoming shows at AlexandraKayOfficial.com.
