Alexandra Kay received the invitation of a lifetime, when she was invited to open for Tim McGraw on his McGraw Tour 2022. She later also joined her good friend, Jelly Roll, on his 2024 Beautifully Broken Tour. With both tours, Kay learned a lot, and not just about performing.
“Watching them interact with their fans, watching them interact with the people that work with them,” Kay tells News On 6. “It takes a village to put on a huge show like that. And both of them, as well as Brad Paisley – I was just on the road with him – but you just watch them interact with all the people that help put the show on. They’re just so kind and so courteous. And everybody always treated us like family, no matter if we were the first people to go on, and the arena was half full by the time we went on. They treated us like we were right up there with the headliner.”
Kay also recalls the big gesture he did for Kay every night, one that gave her already-growing career a big boost.
“Jelly used to bring me out on stage when the entire arena was full, and let me sing a whole song, half a song by myself,” Kay recounts. “And then tell everybody to follow me on social media. So just, as I get bigger, I want to make sure that I continue to stay as humble as they did, and to reach down and help the next generation of women in country music, and give them a spotlight.”

Kay’s sophomore Second Wind album came out in October, but Kay is already hard at work on her next record.
“I’m writing my third album now. I’ve already written a bunch of songs for it,” Kay recently revealed on XTU Philadelphia.
Likely writing a lot with her boyfriend and band member, Rocko Beall, Kay says she typically starts with the words, and lets the music follow.
“I’m a lyrics person first….I think that’s because I grew up not playing any instruments, and just grew up as a writer, just diary entries that turned to poems,” the Illinois native shares. “And then heard melodies and wrote that. And then, I learned how to play an instrument after that. I could just write it without anything.”
The next set of tunes will likely show Kay’s happiness with Beall, whom she fell for after years of being friends.
“Honestly, I didn’t look at him like that. I didn’t. I was single for the first time in 11 years, and he was very reliable,” Kay shares on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast. “He was very sweet, very kind. He’s great. He’s like one of the best guys I’ve ever met. He really is. He’s an incredible person. To be completely honest, one night, we were having beers backstage, like one will do after a show. And I looked over at Beth, and I was like, ‘Rocko’s kind of cute.’ She was like, ‘What?’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ve just had too much.’”
Once Kay realized she was developing feelings for Beall, they quickly snowballed into something much stronger.
“I feel like I fell in love with him before I ever even liked him, and had a crush on him,” Kay acknowledges. “It was just, I loved him so much as a person, as a human, as a friend. And then, when I started to feel that romantic connection and that attraction to him like that, ’cause he was single and I was single at the same time. We spent so much time together, that’s when I started to look at him in a different light.”
