Alexis Wilkins Releases ‘Holdin’ On’ to Benefit Musicians on Call (Exclusive)

Alexis Wilkins is focusing on those in need right now. The rising star just dropped “Holdin’ On,” a song she co-wrote with Mitch Rossell, which took on an entirely different meaning in light of all that is happening in the world right now, including the coronavirus pandemic. For that reason, the generous singer is donating all of the proceeds from the song to Musicians on Call, a nonprofit that provides music to patients in healthcare facilities. It’s a cause Alexis was already passionate about, but now more than ever.

“Before all of this started, we were talking about how people kind of hold on to things they don’t need to,” Alexis told Everything Nash. “It’s just a song about holding on to each other, holding on to our values and holding onto the things that are really important. And then, when all of this happened with coronavirus and my initial release of a few songs was pushed and kind of refiguring that out. I wanted to release something that people could connect to and people could, no pun intended, hold on to.

“I was inspired by Musicians on Call,” she continued. “We bring music into hospitals. The work they do is really incredible. Right now, of course, we can’t go into hospitals, and so what they’re doing is working really hard on their virtual programs so that we can come into different hospitals and the closed-circuit TVs and bring patients the healing power of music. I just wanted to mesh the two worlds together and see what I could do to help. And that turned into me releasing ‘Holdin’ On,’ and donating the proceeds to Musicians on Call to help with that effort.”

Alexis is still growing her fanbase and introducing her music to the world, so donating all of the proceeds to Musicians on Call is a big gift, but one she was happy to offer.

“It’s what the world needs – more compassion and more people helping each other right now,” Alexis stated simply. “Especially during a time where we can’t really connect with each other. We can’t just go and sit and have lunch together and support each other in person. It’s an important time, and this is what I’m passionate about. I’ve seen the healing power of music in the room, and it was really unsettling for me, the fact that that might not be able to happen until we have clearance again to go into the hospital in person. It just made a whole bunch of sense to just try and do what I can to help out with that.”

Alexis had big plans to tour and promote her music, but like everyone else, those plans have been derailed due to COVID-19 –- not that Alexis is deterred by the unexpected change in plans.

“This year is up in air, for everyone, for all acts,” Alexis reflected. “For big acts and small acts and everyone in general. So it’s kind of just finding a way to still, similar to my thought process with Musicians on Call, just kind of finding a way to still bring music to people and still do what we love as performers and unify people with music. Music has the power to do that. It’s really just, how do we bring it to people in this kind of crazy environment we’ve been living in since quarantine started?

“I’m figuring out all the details, but I can tell you that I will be releasing music sometime in July,” she added. “I’m really excited. We have a video shot that we did before all of this started. And so it’s just kind of figuring out how to do that in conjunction with figuring out more ways to help.”
