Blake Shelton Talks Heartfelt Message in 'Let Him In Anyway'

Blake Shelton is opening up about his current hit single, “Let Him In Anyway.” The song, written by HARDY, Zach Crowell, and Jameson Rodgers, is on Shelton’s latest album, For Recreational Use Only.

“Let Him In Anyway” is a faith-based song that is not typical for Shelton. Still, he knew as soon as he heard “Let Him In Anyway,” that he wanted to release it.

“If you can hear this song, and it doesn’t punch you in the gut and break your heart, then you probably need to be examined in other ways,” Shelton says. “I just wanted this song to have a platform and a way to be heard. That’s what I love about our writers in Nashville, and what I love about country music in general, is great songs that come out of Nashville. And every now and then, you’re lucky to get your hands on one. And I think this is one of those.”

What Blake Shelton Says About “Let Him In Anyway”

Someone at Shelton’s record label sent him “Let Him In Anyway,” and from the first listen, he knew he wanted the song for himself.

“I was just blown away by it,” Shelton tells Country Now. “At one point, I thought, ‘She’s sending me this song. Can I cut this, or is this like the next big artist they’re about to release?’ And I was like, ‘But that sounds like HARDY on that demo.’ And it turns out, obviously, it was.”

“Let Him In Anyway” is definitely a different style for Shelton. Still, for someone who has been part of country music for 25 years, “Let Him In Anyway” also felt like a refreshing chance for him.

“I love to be able to record a song that’s kind of an area, a subject that I haven’t covered yet,” Shelton acknowledges. “I mean, when you’ve been doing this a hundred years like I have, it’s hard to find something you haven’t said before. And so this is definitely something that hasn’t been said. I don’t know that it’s ever been said in any song that I’ve ever heard before.”

The Video for Blake Shelton’s “Let Him In Anyway”

Shelton shot the video for “Let Him In Anyway” in a church in California. By his own admission, he doesn’t love music videos, but felt this video fully captures the message in “Let Him In Anyway.”

“Anytime you see me in a video, and you think, man, he’s really into it or whatever. I hate filming videos,” Shelton says. “I mean, I just do not enjoy the process anymore. It used to be super exciting, like ‘I’m going to make a music video!’ Now I’m like, ‘Do we really need to do a video?’”

“It’s a beautiful church, though, really,” he continues. “On a serious note, it was absolutely beautiful, and it was a neat moment. I mean, when I walked in there, I did have that attitude of, ‘Oh my God, music video.’ And then I walked in, and they had the lights coming through the stained glass, and it felt like I was walking into a dream or something. It was really neat in there.”
