Carly Pearce‘s Honest Woman album is out. The record, her fifth, is perhaps the record she has always wanted to make, combining her love of bluegrass with other sounds in country music, all fused together by Pearce’s undeniable talent.
“I’ve always loved bluegrass,” Pearce tells Everything Nash. “It’s always been something that I wanted to find the right time. I’ve wanted to do a bluegrass record, which I think I will at some point, but I got my start singing bluegrass. When I was 11, I was in a bluegrass band. A lot of the bluegrass artists would tell you, I used to go to bluegrass festivals when I was a kid. They all know me that way. So it’s always been a very big part of my love of music. But this was the right moment to kind of show that part of me.”
Dan Tyminski and Molly Tuttle join Pearce on “What If You Loved Me,” while Tyminski also sings with Pearce on “Who’s Lying Here.”
“Molly Tuttle’s been a dear friend of mine over the last few years,” Pearce says. “And she is a force. She’s and one of the most incredible musicians I’ve ever heard. And Dan Tyminski, some of my biggest memories as a kid were going to see Alison Krauss and Union Station perform. He and I connected; he’s my favorite male voice. And we connected before I started making this record. And he was like, ‘I’d love to figure out a way for us to collaborate.’ And I was like, ‘Cool. I’m gonna have you sing on it, play on it with me.
“This is kind of like the Carly Pearce and Dan Tyminski record,” she adds with a laugh. “But just honoring that side of me, that’s such a big part of me that a lot of people don’t realize.”

What Carly Pearce Says About ‘Honest Woman’
Pearce didn’t hold back in any of the songs on Honest Woman. From the vulnerable “Dreams Come True” and “Happy For Myself,” to the sexy “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” collaboration with Riley Green, and more, Pearce intentionally poured all of herself into all of the songs on Honest Woman.
“I think as a female in this business or in any kind of entertainment field, or maybe just in general, you can be told to hide your age or your life experience, or you’re too much, or all these different things. And I think for me, I just really wanted to show people more of me, more of my vulnerability, more of the things that matter to me. And also say, you know what? I’m 36, and I’m proud of it and I’m gonna say it. And the only things that I’ve learned have come from life experience that come with age. So I think age is an asset.”
When releasing the record, Pearce said she was rightfully proud of the finished product.
“This album was years in the making, and I’ve never been more proud of a body of work,” boasts the singer. “I went back to my roots, honored the music that raised me, and told the truth about my experiences as a woman through these songs. These songs hold pieces of my story, and I hope you find pieces of yours in them too.”
