Charlie Daniels’ Funeral Plans Include a Patriotic Community Service and Public Visitation

The details for Charlie Daniels funeral have been announced. The country music superstar will be honored first with a Patriotic Community Service on Wednesday, July 8, outside Sellers Funeral Home in Mount Juliet. The event, which begins at 6:30 PM, is open to the public. The outdoor service will feature honors from the military, an aircraft flyover, and music from Trace Adkins, Tracy Lawrence, Darryl Worley, and others.

On Thursday, July 9, a visitation, also open to the public, will be held at Sellers Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The funeral will take place on Friday, July 10, at World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro.

Charlie was an avid supporter of the military, and causes related to those who currently serve as well as veterans, establishing the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at Middle Tennessee State University.

“Charlie’s love of life and country was radiant and inspiring. And we at MTSU shall work every day to sustain and extend his legacy through the good works of the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center,” MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee said in a statement (via Fox 17). “Charlie will live on, not only through his music but also through the lives lifted through his generosity.”

The leader of the Charlie Daniels Band began the Journey Home Project as a way to help women and men who served in the Armed Forces, addressing their specific needs upon their return home, just one of the many ways Charlie helped those in need during his historic career.

“An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor, and a true road warrior, Daniels parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children, and others in need.,” his representatives said. “The Charlie Daniels Band has long populated radio with memorable hits and his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Journey Home Project, in his honor.

Charlie was 83 years old when he passed away on Monday, July 6, at a hospital near him home, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Charlie is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Hazel, as well as his son, Charlie Daniels, Jr. Read his entire obituary here.
