Cole Swindell on Filming ‘Single Saturday Night’ Video During COVID-19: ‘It Was Awkward’

Cole Swindell just did something he never thought he would have to do: film a video for a song without a bunch of people around him. But out of safety concerns because of COVID-19, the Georgia native was forced to come up with a new way to film the video for “Single Saturday Night,” which is his latest single.

“We didn’t know what we were going to do,” Cole told Everything Nash and other outlets. “We just knew that we wanted to put the song out, and we had to have a video. With the times we’re in, I was like, ‘Man, it’s going to have to be somewhat of a Zoom-looking video,’ and then just came in with an idea of just me and the band guys.

“We got us all together, not in one place, but we all went by at separate times,” he continued. “It looked like a schedule all day long, who was here when and all that. So the whole band came by; we’re in front of a green screen and doing all that. Then I came last and did all my parts. It was awkward.”

Filming the video for “Single Saturday Night,” which is from an upcoming new album, the way he did is something Cole hopes he never has to do again, which is why he was determined to make the most of the unique experience.

‘It’s pretty crazy,” Cole admitted. “We wanted to have fun with it. That was our whole thing. We didn’t want to shoot a little video of me in a bar seeing a girl or whatever. We wanted to just have fun. And that’s what this video is. As different as it was, I’ll never forget it. I know that I’ll probably never shoot another video like it. You can only have so many people around, and we didn’t have that many resources, so we did what we could … It’s a unique video.”

“Single Saturday Night” was written by Ashley Gorley, Mark Holman and HARDY. Cole hopes to resume his Down to Earth Tour this fall, which includes HARDY as an opening act, this fall. Updates will be posted on Cole’s website as available.
