Boyd embarked on an unexpected new journey this year, after he exited Texas Hill, a band he formed with Season 9 American Idol finalist, Casey James, and The Voice runner-up on season 10, Adam Wakefield.

“I was voted out of the band I started – but I am excited to get back to getting out and entertaining folks with good Country music!” Boyd said at the time.

The 44-year-old kept his word about releasing new music. He just dropped “Let It Ride (Let It Roll),” marking his first official single to radio in six years. He also released “One Line Away” in February, written about his wife, Taylor, whom he met two days after winning The Voice in 2014.

At the time, Boyd told People that the song is about “those anxious moments right before pledging your love to that significant other.”

“I was smitten by [my wife] Taylor the very first time I saw her from afar and even more so after an evening of conversation,” he continued. “I truly feel like I knew she was going to be ‘the one’ from day one!”
