Danielle Bradbery Releases ‘Never Have I Ever’ About Falling in Love: ‘It’s a True Story’ (Exclusive)

Danielle Bradbery is in love, and she doesn’t care if the world knows it. The Season 4 winner of The Voice just released “Never Have I Ever,” which she wrote with Laura Veltz and David Hodges, and was inspired by falling in love with the person she is now dating.

“I started talking about my relationship and that whole life,” Danielle told Everything Nash, speaking of the day the song was written. “That started to get into music land. Laura, she had the idea of the title, ‘Never Have I Ever,’ and I’m like, ‘That’s such a great title. No one I know has that.’ It’s very common. I feel like there are games everywhere. It’s just very well known and I’m like, ‘This could turn into something really cool.’ So we went back and forth about this topic and basically what it’s about is meeting somebody, whether you’re just talking, whether you just started dating or whatever state it is.

“You meet somebody unexpectedly and you’re like, ‘Whoa, I thought I felt love. I thought I felt something with somebody, but this person is making me feel like I’ve never felt before, and it’s almost scaring me, but I’m excited,'” she continued. “You’re just overwhelmed with how the person’s making you feel.”

Danielle knew the song would be about the man she is dating, but she also wanted it to be something other people, male and female, could relate to as well.

“What I love about this song –– a guy or girl relate to it,” Danielle said. “I love that, and it’s a true story. I was in a relationship and learned so much from it. I got out of that, and was single for about a year and wasn’t looking for anybody. My current boyfriend, it just came out of nowhere and I’m like, ‘Whoa, I think I love you.'”

Surprisingly, her current boyfriend –– who is not in the music industry –– had no idea who she was, or that she was the winner of one of the biggest reality TV talent shows when she was just 16 years old.

“He actually didn’t know,” Danielle said, adding that it was likely because he isn’t much of a TV watcher. “That was kind of cool. I got to tell him this whole new story. That was fun.”

Danielle was barely old enough to drive when she won The Voice. She released her self-titled freshman album shortly after being crowned the winner, followed by I Don’t Believe We’ve Met in 2017, which included the single, “Goodbye Summer” with Thomas Rhett. Now, the 23-year-old is coming into her own as a singer, songwriter and artist, and is eager to share that with the world.

“I’m definitely trying to sprinkle in the fact that I’ve grown up,” Danielle maintained. “A lot of people who remember me and follow me, basically saw me grow up through The Voice, and it’s so understandable. I was 16 years old. That’s a baby. I’m still young. I’m 23. From 16 to 23, that is a lot of changes … My new music is definitely showcasing that I’m a woman now.

“I have a lot more to say,” she added. “I have a lot more experience under my belt. Hopefully, I relate to people even more, and my music reaches even more of a platform.”
