Gabby Barrett’s ‘Glory Days’: Story Behind the Song [EXCLUSIVE]

Gabby Barrett has a new single out, from a new album. The song, written by Barrett, along with Emily Weisband, Seth Mosley, and James McNair, is the debut single from a forthcoming new project, and inspired by Barrett’s own unconventional life.

“I wrote it with a group of friends, and we were just kind of talking about my life,” Barrett tells Everything Nash. “I mean, I’ve lived a lot of life in a short amount of years, I would say. I have a husband, I’ve been married for four years, and I’m only 23. I have two children. I’ve done a lot of things in music, and in country music. I’ve been to awards shows. There are just a lot of lovely things that have happened, and I’m living in my glory days right now, I think.”

“Glory Days” became for Barrett a reminder to soak up each moment, and not waste time waxing nostalgic about days gone by.

“I always remember my parents saying, ‘Oh, those were the glory days. Those were the good old days,’ kind of like how you toss it to the past, and look to the past. And so I wanted to write a song saying, ‘I’m living in the glory days right now.’ And so that’s what it’s about, and it means a lot to me, ’cause it talks about what my life is like right now in the midst of the crazy.”

The Pennsylvania native hasn’t shared many details of her next project, but she did reveal that there is a song on the record which she wrote with Miranda Lambert and Hillary Lindsey.

“It involves the great state of Texas, and it’s a really cool song,” Barrett says on The Bobby Bones Show. “Hopefully, the goal is to get her vocals on it as well. That would be awesome. I wrote a song with her and Hillary Lindsey, who’s one of my favorite people ever. It really was my first time getting to sit down with Miranda, actually talk to her and see how she is as a person. It really warms my heart when I meet A-list celebrities, and they are not awful off-camera, and she is definitely awesome.

“She’s so laidback,” she adds. “You would not know she is Miranda Lambert, if you talk to her. She’s super cool. So I’m really glad that she got a new song out of it. I’m really excited for everybody to hear that.”

The  American Idol alum also recorded a song that she didn’t write, but was written by Luke Combs, specifically for her.

“I’m a big fan of his,” Barrett shared earlier this year on Lon Helton’s Country Countdown USA. “He pitched me a song not too long ago. As soon as I heard it, I was like it really strikes a chord with me. I’m definitely gonna put it on my next album coming out later this year. He was very adamant about the song and me recording it. I think it’s an awesome song, and it’s coming out this year.”
