John Berry Recalls Final ‘Heartfelt Conversation’ With Charlie Daniels Last Week

John Berry and his wife, Robin, were good friends with Charlie Daniels, which is why he is so saddened by Charlie’s sudden death. John shared a tribute to Charlie in a lengthy post on social media, recalling the final conversation he had with the country music legend, just last week.

“Charlie Daniels. He’s been a big part of the soundtrack of my life,” John began his tribute. “He’s always been there since I was a kid. I can recall as early as 1973 when I first heard ‘Uneasy Rider.’ He had the gift of storytelling through his music and song, and he would tell the story in a way no one else could.

“My wife Robin and I spoke at length with Charlie just last Wednesday,” John continued. “It was a joy, as always, to have a heartfelt conversation with him. He spoke of his music and the joy it has brought him to be able to share it with so many people for so many years, and he spoke of those he worked with that have help make it possible for him to have a career that he loves. And he spoke proudly of his son Charlie Jr. as well as the blessing of being married to Mrs. Hazel for 56 years.”

John also said he is praying for so many of those who are directly impacted by Charlie’s death.

“As much as I will miss him, I know there are those that worked with him day in and day out, that really knew him so well, those that shared the stage with him, those that worked on his ranch and those that worked in the office making sure The CDB was ready to go,” John said. “I will pray for them today, that the huge void that is left with the passing of Charlie Daniels will be filled with what Charlie knew was the most important thing in life and in death, the love of Jesus Christ.”

John concluded his post with a photo of the two of them together, sharing how important that moment was to him.

“This photo is from Fan Fair 1994,” John concluded. “It was my first performance after brain surgery a month earlier. They presented me with a #1 plaque for ‘Your Love Amazes Me.’ I was emotionally overwhelmed to say the least. Charlie came and hugged me and he said ‘It’s ok. Don’t be afraid to let everyone see how much this moment means to you. It’s ok.’ I will miss Charlie.”

Charlie passed away on Monday, July 6, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. Funeral services are pending.
