Kelsey Hart is lighting up country music, literally. Following the success of his viral hit with “Life With You,” the title track of his freshman album, Hart is back with “Fireworks.” The song, written by Barrett Baber, Taylor Goyette and Jordan James, is from Hart’s next project.
“I wasn’t a part of writing that,” Hart tells Everything Nash, adding that someone at Curb, his record label, heard it and sent it to him, the day it was written.
“The guy was just playing it acoustic,” he recalls. “She sent me the work tape, and I fell in love with the song. I’d never heard a break-up really spun that way. I thought it was really cool that they used fireworks as the metaphor. You know you’re going down a dead-end road in a relationship. It can look good for a minute, like fireworks do, but end up in the dirt shortly after. So I thought they just did an incredible job writing the song.”
Hart enjoys writing his own music. But he isn’t opposed to cutting outside songs, especially when it’s one written as well as “Fireworks.”
“We write so much that it is one of those things where I feel like it’s just really got to kind of jump off the page,” Hart explains. “That was one of those just unique ideas, and it all came together. I mean, it was the idea, the melody. I’d never heard it done that way. And I think that as a songwriter, that’s what we’re trying to achieve every day. And it’s not like you have to reinvent the wheel every time.”
Kelsey Hart Moves Forward After ‘Life With You’
Not many artists have success with their debut single like Hart did with “Life With You,” which Hart wrote about his wife, Auminee.
“‘Life With You’ was a very personal thing for my wife and I, because it was our first dance song,” Hart says. “But as a writer and an artist, I don’t ever want to just tell my story. And ‘Fireworks’ is obviously – I’m not going through that personally. But as an artist and a writer, I wanna be able to keep it as open as I can, and tell other people’s stories. And, I think as far as direction for me, with each single, each song, I just want to cut the best song that I can, no matter what lane it’s in, whether it’s personal to me or not.”
Hart, who just announced he and his wife are expecting their first child, admits he had no idea “Life With You” would become such a big hit for him.
“It was one that sat in my phone for a couple of years,” Hart admits. “It wasn’t like we had these locked-in plans that this was gonna be our hit song, or that we were gonna put out, that was gonna do what it was gonna do. It just happened. And I’m obviously super, super thankful for that.
“But I can’t sit back and say, ‘Yeah, I knew that was gonna happen,’ or anything. ’cause we didn’t,” he adds with a laugh.
Kelsey Hart’s Next Album
“Fireworks” is from what will be his sophomore album, one he is working on currently, and plans on releasing in 2026. The new project also includes “Something That You’d Miss,” which is out now.
“We don’t have a locked-in date,” Hart reveals.” It will be sometime next year. We’re gonna release more singles throughout the rest of this year…. We will release a few more singles leading up to that album release next year. We’ve definitely got a pretty good pile of songs that are ready. But we’ve also probably still got a couple more cutting sessions too, where we’re gonna go in and record more.”
