Kenny Chesney Explains Why He Stays Off Social Media

Kenny Chesney‘s new single, “Happy Does,” is more than just fun words set to music, at least for him. The message of the song, which was written by Brad Clawson, Brock Berryhill, Greylan James and Jamie Paulin, is something that Kenny personally feels strongly about, and tries to live out in his own life.

“‘Happy Does’ is a song that truly, when I heard it, it reminded me of just trying to live your best life,” Kenny told ABC Audio. “Because so many people we know — I’m not that active on social media. I don’t get lost in it and stay in it all day. But some people will live their life looking at other people’s lives on social media. And I think sometimes they do it so much that they forget to live their own.”

“Happy Does,” which says in part, “Happy is as happy does / Grab a six-string, find a rope swing / Hang a palm tree in your truck / Drink a beer just because,” is the way the country music superstar hopes to conduct his days, at least in theory, regardless of the circumstances.

“I think that’s the message of this song, is just try to stay present and to try to live and to try to be happy within your own life and to stay curious and to stay hungry,” Kenny said. “And that’s what made me want to record a song like ‘Happy Does.'”

Kenny admits he has been especially challenged this year, when he was unable to tour because of COVID-19.

“I truly do miss [touring],” Kenny admitted to Kix Brooks on American Country Countdown (via Nash Country Daily). “You know, this is the time of year where we’re all real busy, and there’s a great new energy of starting another tour, and going down the highway with all of your road family, and seeing your fans that care about this music. Right now, we’ve been forced to not do that, and it feels strange.

“I think the fans — and I think I speak for my whole road family when I say, ‘We feel a little lost,’” he continued. “We’re cautiously optimistic . . . but, I’m not gonna lie to you, we all feel a little strange and a little lost because this is the time of year where we get to celebrate music and celebrate our love for one another, and that’s how we look at it, and we don’t get to do that right now.”

“Happy Does” is from Kenny’s latest album, Here and Now, which is available on vinyl. The record can be purchased at KennyChesney.com.
