Lady A's Charles Kelley Gives New Health Update Amid Cancer Battle

Lady A‘s Charles Kelley is giving fans a new update on his ongoing battle with cancer. Last month, the singer revealed he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer.

On Tuesday night, October 20, Kelley gave a new update on his Instagram Stories, while out for a walk with his wife, Cassie, and his one-year-old son, Archer.

“Had my third day of treatment today,” Kelley says. “It went really, really good. I did have a new little fracture in the left side of my rib. But we got a good plan, a good pain management plan, and I’m actually feeling really, really good.”

Kelley went on to say he was looking forward to performing with Lady A as part of the Dolly Parton tribute show, CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton, before sharing good news about his prognosis.

“It’s been a journey, but some of the early test results are really, really great,” Kelley adds. “A lot of my, they call them free light chains, are going down dramatically, and that’s what we want to see. So, if I can just get past some of this bone pain, we’re going to be rocking and rolling.”

On September 29, Kelley and Cassie posted a video announcing the heartbreaking news of his cancer diagnosis.

“I had these random rib fractures that happened, which sparked my doctor into having me do several different blood tests,” Kelley shares on social media, with his wife, Cassie, by his side. “One of the last blood tests we did, they found a blood cancer in there called multiple myeloma. It’s rare. But I’m young, I feel healthy, and the treatments, I will say, have just come so far, even in the past five years, that even the life expectancy far exceeds what it used to be.”

Still, Kelley added that he and Cassie felt “really hopeful” about his health.

“We have a friend going through this right now, and she’s been sharing some of her journey,”  Kelley says. “She’s about two months ahead of me on this. It helped me so much, watching that. I think in the same spirit of the way we’ve kind of shared a lot of my sobriety journey, just getting this stuff off your chest is so freeing, and it takes the power away from it a little bit. We wanted to let you all know what was going on, and we’re gonna get through it. I think in sobriety, it’s all about one day at a time, and that we’re not in control, so that’s the way we’re looking at it.”

Charles Kelley Is Grateful For Support From His Fans

After announcing the news, the 45-year-old returned to social media to praise his fans for their support.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support,” he says. “Just so many people thinking about me, and it is, it’s weird. It still feels like it’s kind of a dream. …I flipped the narrative in my mind, and I think mind, body, soul, faith. There’s a reason for it all. And it might be to connect me even closer to my Higher Power, or really soak up these moments with my family more.

“Sometimes these things that feel like a curse can be blessings in disguise,” he adds. “Thank you all for all the love. I’m trying to get back to everybody. But man, I’m overwhelmed with emotion and love and support.”
