NASA Astronaut Sings Along to Travis Tritt’s ‘It’s A Great Day to Be Alive’ Aboard International Space Station

It is definitely a great day to be alive if you’re 250 miles from Earth, at least according to NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy. The astronaut, who is part of a crew of three in space for approximately six months to do extensive research, created a video of himself singing along to Travis Tritt‘s “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive,” which was then shared by the International Space Station.

“From 250 miles above the Earth, Expedition 63 is aware of the hard times that exist in the neighborhoods of the world rotating below,” the accompanying post stated. “Even amid the uncertainty & difficulties, we encourage everyone to be the best “crewmates” & take care of each other. Cherish the people you love.”

Travis retweeted the video, saying, “This is the closest I will ever get to actually being in space. I’m very honored to have my music being played on the International Space Station! Thanks so much!”

Travis joined Vince Gill, Trace Adkins and Gretchen Wilson in paying tribute to Charlie Daniels last month, at the funeral honoring the life and legacy of the 83-year-old, who passed away on July 6. Travis sang “Amazing Grace,” after sharing his heartfelt thoughts on his friend and musical hero.

“Like everybody else here today, I could sit for hours and tell stories about Charlie Daniels, and all the wonderful things that he did for me personally and professionally, all the great times that we had together, how much of an inspiration he was to me, and so many others,” Travis said, adding that the thing that was most important to Charlie was his Christian faith.

“Charlie loved Jesus,” Travis said. “And he was never, to my knowledge, he was never judgmental or preachy about his beliefs. If you believed differently than he did, that was okay. But he wasn’t ashamed to tell you, at any given time, how much he loved the Lord. I always respected him so much for that. And I have no doubt, because I know how much Charlie loved God, I have no doubt that if there’s any person that I’ve ever met that heard the words, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant,’ it was Charlie Daniels this past Monday.”

Travis’ latest album, Homegrown, is available for purchase via his website.
