hey guys it's Gail with Everything Nash
0:02
here with Annne Wilson so good to see
0:04
you you too uh we have lots of things to
0:07
talk about and I haven't talked to you
0:09
in a while so I woke up today and I was
0:10
so excited i was like it's Annne Wilson
0:12
day a that's so sweet i'm so excited to
0:15
talk to you um let's talk about God's
0:17
story what a fun song give me the story
0:19
behind it yeah i um wrote it a few
0:22
months ago i was on a tour called Winter
0:25
Jam and I' been on that tour for a while
0:27
and was really reflecting on the last
0:30
like eight years of my life as a whole
0:32
um the last four being in music and then
0:35
back to when my brother passed 8 years
0:37
ago and really just reflecting on like
0:39
the story that God has written in my
0:41
life um I think that there's something
0:43
really special about getting on the
0:45
other side of pain and being able to
0:46
look back and see like God used it for
0:48
my good and for the greater good of the
0:51
kingdom and so um yeah this song came
0:54
about and then it was felt like an
0:55
invitation almost to people listening of
0:57
like kind of letting everyone have this
1:00
moment to look at their own life and to
1:02
see how God is working in their life and
1:04
their and the story that he's writing in
1:05
their life so um I'm so excited about it
1:09
and um I think it's it's already been
1:11
connecting with people and people have
1:12
been sending me their God stories and
1:14
sharing how God has been moving in their
1:15
life so I'm excited and this is from an
1:18
upcoming album yes you tell yes I'm so
1:23
excited i can't share much yet but uh we
1:26
have a new album coming out and um just
1:29
a lot of exciting stuff i've been
1:31
working the last year writing these
1:33
songs and I'm so passionate about them
1:35
so excited about them and uh just feels
1:37
like we're really ready for this new
1:38
chapter of music okay so I feel like
1:41
Rebel was so incredibly wellreceived can
1:43
we just like talk about that chapter for
1:45
a minute because it didn't launch you
1:48
but it definitely propelled you in a
1:51
place that you hadn't been in your
1:52
career before yeah definitely it was the
1:54
It was my first country album titled you
1:57
know country um and it was it was a
2:00
really fun album for me it was 16 songs
2:02
and I got to really dive in and like
2:04
express who I am creatively and that was
2:06
a lot more country than the last album
2:08
My Jesus um but it did it it gave me
2:11
some incredible opportunities and really
2:13
was the first introduction for me on the
2:15
country side of things um so I got to
2:18
play a lot of country festivals and open
2:19
for some country artists and um it was
2:22
really cool to have that experience and
2:23
just to get to reach people outside of
2:26
the Christian music industry and to to
2:29
reach people on another genre so it was
2:31
really special and I think it um really
2:34
changed kind of things for me so now
2:35
this new album that we're putting out
2:37
has kind of continued on in that same
2:39
path of authentically you know having my
2:42
faith at the core of what I do but also
2:43
the sound of country and you also um got
2:48
to sing with Jelly Roll last year yes I
2:51
know i was so excited it was like the
2:54
craziest day yeah that was phenomenal
2:57
what I love about you I listened to
2:59
Rebel multiple times um I know that you
3:03
were going to be under the microscope
3:04
because you're a Christian artist doing
3:06
country album but you didn't water it
3:08
down at all my friend like you are
3:10
hardcore this is still what I believe
3:12
can you talk about that decision yeah I
3:14
think for me it was um it was really
3:16
realizing like this is my chance to be
3:20
bold in my faith like it never happened
3:21
before and so when I was writing these
3:24
songs it was just like I'm not going to
3:25
back down to please people on the
3:27
countryside like I'm not going to
3:29
sacrifice my faith to fit in and then
3:31
I'm not going to sacrifice the sound of
3:33
country to fit in on Christian radio a
3:36
lot of the times Christian radio gives
3:37
push back for country sounding music
3:39
which is crazy and so I was like you
3:42
know kind of wrestling with that and I
3:44
came to realize like I have to be
3:45
authentically who I am i can't water
3:48
down my faith and I can't water down my
3:50
love for country and so it was a it was
3:52
an interesting season but it also came
3:54
out like right before the kind of whole
3:56
political stuff last year and was very
3:58
interesting um kind of I think for our
4:01
country like a time where a lot of
4:03
people were standing for what they
4:04
believed in no matter which side they
4:07
were on they were choosing to stand for
4:08
the things that meant a lot to them and
4:10
for me that was that was rebel it was
4:12
like I'm a proud believer of Jesus i'm a
4:15
proud uh supporter of the gospel i want
4:18
to share it with people and it really
4:19
became like my whole thing was all about
4:22
Jesus and spreading the gospel and it
4:25
was really cool to see how God ended up
4:26
using that um spreading the gospel you
4:30
are heading out on tour i might have
4:32
shrieked a little bit with Morgan Wallen
4:35
i know how are we feeling about this oh
4:38
Lord I don't even know i'm going to
4:41
probably have a full-blown freakout
4:43
attack the day I get there um but I'm
4:46
very grateful and it's something that I
4:49
never even thought was possible i've I'm
4:51
literally like obsessed with his music
4:53
anyone in my life that knows me knows
4:55
that he's all I listen to i literally
4:57
mean all I listen to like all the time
4:59
and so when I found out that I was
5:01
getting to go on tour with him I was
5:03
just blown away and um he's actually
5:05
been a sweet supporter of mine and what
5:07
I do we're very different artists we
5:09
have very different musical like
5:11
platforms and the kind of things we
5:13
write about um but he's been really
5:15
encouraging and and supportive so I
5:17
can't wait i just I'm just praying that
5:21
I get have the strength to not pass out
5:23
on stage um but I'm really excited and
5:26
it's going to be a great time so how do
5:29
you approach a Morgan Walling concert as
5:32
a Christian artist who is releasing a
5:35
positive country album
5:38
honestly I just am going to go be myself
5:40
because that's all I can be and for me
5:42
it looks like the same exact set I would
5:44
play at a Christian festival um I'm just
5:47
going to play my music you know and
5:49
share the gospel and be me and uh I
5:52
think it's interesting because like on
5:54
one of the nights it's me Miranda and
5:55
Morgan and the other night it's me
5:57
Brooks and Dun and Morgan and both
5:59
Miranda Brooks and Dun have had those
6:01
songs that are faith-based you know so I
6:04
think it's like God is in country music
6:07
so I don't think it's going to be
6:08
anything that's out of the ordinary for
6:10
these people at the concert but it will
6:12
be like a full gospel presentation um
6:15
which I'm I'm just so excited to get
6:17
that opportunity because even if one
6:19
person in the crowd comes to know Christ
6:22
that day that's that's worth all of it
6:24
for me and people can say what Wallen
6:27
what they want about Wallen's lifestyle
6:28
but he is a professing Christian yes he
6:31
is yeah take it and he uh he is such an
6:35
inc like just he's a talent you know
6:37
that we will talk about for many many
6:39
many years to come so right and I also
6:42
think that Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll
6:44
have done a lot to perpetuate Christian
6:46
music in the country genre also
6:49
with Hardford Hallelu which is so great
6:51
okay i want to read something to you
6:52
that was in your press release over the
6:54
last couple years God has done some
6:55
incredible healing work can we talk
6:57
about that for a minute yeah you know I
7:00
think a lot of what I talk about with my
7:02
brother is uh over the last couple years
7:05
I feel like he's gotten me over this
7:07
kind of like I guess hump of like the
7:10
grief like I feel like I'm on the other
7:11
side of it now of healing um where I
7:14
feel like I've fully been able to I now
7:16
can look back on my brother and not feel
7:18
so much heartache and devastation but
7:21
rather joy when I think about him um
7:24
he's you know I think about him every
7:26
day and obviously there's days I wake up
7:28
still sad and heartbroken i always will
7:30
be but I really feel like God has healed
7:32
me into a place of of joy i love that
7:36
okay what can I know you can't tell me a
7:37
lot but what can we say about the next
7:39
album can we talk about when it might
7:41
come out how many songs might be on it
7:45
uh songs don't know yet we're still kind
7:48
of picking we're in the selection like
7:50
part of the album process like picking
7:52
the next songs we have the majority of
7:54
them picked out but maybe a couple are
7:56
still going to be added uh it won't be
7:58
as many songs as Rebel i can say that um
8:01
it was kind of one of those albums that
8:03
we were like we we want to get this out
8:04
soon so it's a it's a few less songs
8:07
than 16 um and this album is a really I
8:11
think it's an interesting kind of coming
8:12
of age record very different than
8:14
anything I've done before um a lot of
8:16
the songs are really kind of reflecting
8:18
on this year so I turned 23 in February
8:21
and I turned the age that my brother was
8:24
when he passed away and it was a very
8:27
weird like milestone in the grief
8:30
journey of like being I guess coming to
8:33
this realization I was going to live
8:34
longer than my brother got to it was a
8:36
very weird uh part of my grief and so um
8:39
this whole like last six months has been
8:41
writing kind of about that and so
8:43
there's a lot of songs that talk about
8:44
some of those deep moments of heartbreak
8:47
and pain of that and then there's also
8:49
songs that have a lot of joy and kind of
8:51
this grownup sense of this is the
8:53
23-year-old Ann now um so it has a lot
8:56
of that coming of age I think is the way
8:58
I describe it of like this kind of new
9:00
me always the same like core parts of me
9:03
but a a little bit of a different sound
9:06
as well to some of the production so
9:08
okay well we'll have to talk when you
9:10
can finally talk about it yep absolutely
9:13
good to see you my friend thank you Ann
9:14
yes absolutely
